Re: Where Does The U.S. Dollar Actually Work To My Advantage ?
All Central and South American countries are favorable to the US Dollar, when compared tomost of northern Europe and the Euro. That's one of the main reason there has been a steady downward decline of tourist from North America to Europe over the past five years. During the same period, tourists from North America have increased substantially in Central and South America. Argentina appears to be an exceptional travel bargain because of it's economyand also holds great appeal because of the strong and diverse European influences in the country. I wish LL had more offerings in Argentina.

Hi O,
I agree, the last time I was Europe was a year ago, and I thought the Dollar / Euro was bad then, now it's just really unfavorable. With that said I've been wanting to go to Buenos Aires for a along time now, and this would be a great excuse to do so. Maybe in 2007 LL will have some deal that I just can't say no to ...

e...I have a client who is a pilot for AA andflies the Miami-Buenos Aires route monthly. He can't say enough nice things about thepeople and the general ambiance of the city. My wife and I have talked about Buenos Aires, then doing some investigating and exploring in Patagonia.....across to Santiago and back home....could be an '07 destination for us.

Well if you go, I've been told that it is a must to dine at La Cubana http://www.lacabanabuenosaires.com.a...b_a2a_home.jsp. This is a very famous steakhouse in Buenos Aires with a lot of history and superb steak. It's certainly on my list if I go in 2007 !

Hi O and E,
Yes, the dollar decline vs the Euro is very painful. You basically have to add 32% to every dollar you spent over in Europe and to add insult to injury, the credit card companies charge you an additional 2 to 3.5% for every purchase you charge to their card, so you are winding up paying about $1.35 for every Euro you spend over there. My travel agent has been singing praises of Argentina, saying it is very European looking, a lot of European culture there as well ,and best of all, it is "cheap" by comparison, the dollar goes a long way. Europe is feeling the fact that the Americans are staying away -- you no longer have difficulties obtaining reservtions in a 3 star Michelin restaurant, whereas before they actually had "quotas" to restrict Americans to have the good restaurants filled exclusively by Americans....
It makes a lot of sense to go to places where the dollar goes a lot further....

Canada's the place to go! It's next door to USA, so easy and quicky to get to. And, best of all at the current, favorable exchange rate, $100 US is worth $116.56 CDN! That means the American travel dollar goesa lot further than at home.
Other benefits: virtually everyone in Canada speaks English (even in Quebec you can get along without speaking French); electrical current's the same, most American hotels, major retail outlets, and restaurant chains all have plenty of locations in all the main cities throughout Canada.

Hi C,
Yes, Canada is a great place and the dollar goes a lot further and as you point out they do speak English (with the exception of Quebec...). However, right now, a lot of the Canadians flee Canada because of the cold... they are all down here in Florida.... Just kidding, Canada is a beautiful place in the summer and for those who like snow, there are also some great ski places, like Whistler Mountain or Mt. Tremblant... Good choice...

7......looks like a great place...unfortunately, we vegetarians! My pilot buddy tells me that we will be missing out on a lot of great dining experience, since the general popular are meat eaters! Thanks for the suggestion.

You bet. Even in winter, Canada has a lot of fabulous travel attractions. Whistler and several other world-class downhill skiing resoert in southern British Columbia on the west coast offer superb skiing conditions and accomodations. The Channel Islands in the Juan De Fuca Sound, south of Vancouver are idyllic getaways at any time of the year.
Edmonton in Alberta may be snowcovered in winter but features the amazing West Edmonton Mall, an enclosed shopping and entertainment complex with a huge indoor Water Park with thrilling water slides and a challenging wave pool, as well as underwater submarine rides!
Toronto's always a fabulous tourist magnet with the world's tallest free-standing structure, the CN Tower, offering magnificent views of the sprawling city and of Lake Ontario (on a clear day, the mist over Niagara Falls can be seen). The expansive Eaton Centre, a fabulous enclosed downtown shopping concourseparallels Yonge Street, the main thoroughfare in Canada's biggest and most cosmopolitan city. There's also the exotic Toronto Zoo, the Ontario Science Centre, and a score of first-run Broadway-style playhouses featuring live theatre entertainment.
Niagara Falls is a spectacular sight to see anytime, but has an amazing look to it during winter time, when much of the Niagara River gorge is a magicland of shimmering ice and snow. Indoors, Casino Niagara offers altogether different kinds of thrills and excitement.
East of Quebec, the Maritime provinces along the Atlantic Coast are also good travel destinations in winter, mainly for their splendid seaside sceneray and seafood.
