02-12-2008, 04:30 PMWhere to Honeymoon in May
Hi,
My Fiance and I would like to go on our honeymoon some place warm in Mid May. So far it seems like every place rains in May. Does any one have any ideas of a good romantic place where we can go to the beach a few days and see some culture on other days. We started out planning a trip to Bangkok and Phuket, but people say it rains a lot there?
Thank you,

With the weather being so unpredictable more than before, it is really hard to tell if it's gonna rain or not. But there are still places that are generally warm enough during this month. Places in the U.S. such as California and the Southern part are still warm even almost the rest of the world are dripping wet. You can also consider places in Europe such as England, Greece, France, Italy and Spain. But the best thing to do is keep a keen eye on the weather channel just to be sure.

Hi sisters. May is my FAVORITE time to travel. Usually in the Caribbean, Central America, and Europe, rain doesn't really affect your trip until June. I would look at the above three. Now, what type of traveller are you? Do you want luxurious, luxurious rustic, casual, etc? Central America would allow you to see sights and then enjoy the beach. I would say the beaches will not be like the Caribbean. They are more dark sand, Pacific beaches. For sights to see, you could visit the ruins. One idea might be Belize. Stay on the beach for a few days and then stay inland for a few days.

Hi...
Early to Mid May is a wonderful time to travel to most of the caribbean beaches and those in Mexico. It doesn't rain much at this time and the humidity doesn't really begin to kick in until June when it gets too hot and too buggy for my liking.
Check out The Tides in Zihuatanejo, Mexicofor a fantastic and supremely romantichotel... stay there for a few days and then, if you like, you can rent a car and drive up to the beautiful hill towns just a couple of hours away.

you can fulfill your romantic get away with your fiance in Costa Rica. During the month of May, it'll be hot, hot, hot in Costa Rica. Try the Punta Islita Beach, they have inspiring views, and romantic scenery.

if you want somewhere where you will definately not get rain in May, then I would recommend Dubai. As others said the Caribbean would be a good choice too. It depends what you are looking for? If you want luxury, then Dubai is hard to beat.
Keep us informed of where you finally decide on.

Have you considered Hawaii? Many, many romantic sites and beaches are there for you to enjoy. Island culture is fascinating, and you could choose to stay at one fabulous island property or you could break up your honeymoon time among several islands and luxury properties. Most major luxury hotels have multiple properties in Hawaii and could create a fabulous itinerary for your honeymoon. Enjoy!

Sounds to me you are also looking for someplace exotic. I would maybe suggest Morocco in May. Weather is beautiful, lots of culture and beautiful beaches. And then of course there is Casablanca----very romantic.

Morocco would be great in May. Great weather and the most beautiful blue sky! Agadir is a beach town so you can mix a little beach visit with sights in Casablanca or Marrakech. And, the best part is that there are some nice properties up for bid on LL!! Connections from the east coast are not that bad. Typically you would be flying out of Newark/JFK on Royal Air Maroc. You could go with a foreign carrier but chances are you would stop in Europe first.

Re: Where to Honeymoon in May
Hello,
I'd recommend taking a look at South Africa. May is one of the best times of year to visit Cape Town -- the weather is warm and sunny enough to wear shorts by day, but crisp enough at night to enjoy snuggling up in front a crackling log fire. It's autumn in the Southern Hemisphere so you'll get lovely fall colours in the Winelands. South Africa really is a world in one country (their motto) -- there's everything from history and culture in Cape Town to stunning landscapes on the Garden Route to the chance to go on safari in the bush.
May is the beginning of the low season in South Africa, so you can also get some great deals. The weakness of the Rand against the dollar also means that you'll get amazing value for money. LL often has some excellent packages for hotels in the Winelands (le Quartier Francais), Cape Town (Mount Nelson, Cellars Hohenort), and the Garden Route (The Plettenberg, The Marine).
The safari deals in SA tend to be not quite as good value as they're often too short (you really need 3 nights in a camp) but you could see if they would allow you to add on an extra night or two. There are fast, inexpensive flights from SA to other countries in Southern Africa, so you could go on safari there as well. There are some particularly nice packages for The Bushcamp Company in Zambia -- I know the owner and he make sure that all guests have a superb time at his camps. Safari camps really pull out all the stops for honeymooners! You could also visit Botswana or Nambia, and spend a few days in Victoria Falls.
If you want time on the beach, it's easy to fly to the Seychelles or Mauritius from Joburg. Another option which is off the beaten track (and closer and less expensive) is Mozambique, where LL has some very nice properties such as Benguerra Lodge.
You could also combine SA and Dubai as Emirates flies to Joburg via Dubai.
Cheers,
Julian
