We are currently in Europe, and we have seen a steady increase of the Euro. My guess is that it will continue to climb to about 1.45 and then level off.
The Euro is on the rise again. However, our European friends say, the Euro will eventually go to par with the Dollar. I sure would love to see that....
Come on, LL_Travelfan, you're European friends are drinking too much German beer.
No way the Euro will be at par with the USD any time soon.
Hey Mountie,
I didn't say I believe it.... I said our European Friends are saying that. They do put away a lot of beer, true, but I would be very surprised if a Euro Dollar par came to pass. It would be nice though, would make European travel a lot more affordable.
I hope the USD continues to gain on the Euro. Could make a trip to Europe more appealing to me later this year.
I second DB--Czech Republic or Hungary are easy choices. Haven't done Bratislava but it's convenient to combine. Or Romania has some appeal--not sure if they've cranked up their toursim infrastructure (it was quite limp 5 yrs ago) DB would know alot more about that. The only western EU destination I would take on would be Portugal.
Istanbul is quite interesting, too. Croatia is on my hit list, as well.
mountie....we'll 'second' that vote on Portugal as a possible destination (regardless of the exchange fluctuations).
Once you're outside of the larger cities, such as Lisbon and Porto, and if you are willing to travel in the shoulder seasons, you should find Portugal a bargain compared to most of the remainder of Western Europe.
Don't procrastinate in hopes of a substantially more favorable exchange rate, at the risk of missing the experiences.
Go for it.
The Euro is sitting at $1.3022 right now. I still think Germany, especially Southern Germany, Bavaria, is quite reasonable, and there is so much to see (lots of castles), plus the mountains are lovely. Also Austria is still very reasonable. The only problem is that LL has very few properties there. Nonetheless, you can get a nice 4* hotel for two with breakfast and spa facilities for about 100 Euros a night.
