Where will the Euro vs Dollar move in 2012?

I hate to sound so pessimistic and am trying to keep all political comments out of my posts ;-)
Any place my dollar can take me and I get a good exchange is OK by me - so bring on the affordable travel destinations!!

What's wrong with getting the most value for your dollar?

We find the concept very appealing and we constantly search for value and luxury, which is one of the draws of Central and South America (as well as proximity).

Dollar costs $1.26 per Euro. Still 26% higher, but better than it was in Nov./Dec. 2011. I don't think we will see parity in 2012.

Certainly, the $ vs € is trending in a more favorable direction for those of us who possibly have interest in EU travel in 2012

While the Euro seems high, if you know where to go locally, you can still reap some good benefits.

Here's an article that about the euro zone's current economic turmoil, the value of the euro and it addresses how it may impact travelers from North America, looking at a few different scenarios. I agree with the writer that decisions by tourists whether to travel to a specific country or not, are affected more by what happens in the streets (think Mexico or Greece) than what happens in the banks.

Don't expect prices at rock bottom in Greece. They will take every cent they can get.

I'm going to Athens in 2 wks. Short trip but long enough to spend some cash on great food!
