O, you are right, we do have choices! However, I was amazed that the US would charge you to give up your US citizenship. On the other hand, splitting your time between the US and another country of your choices is having the best of both worlds....

-O-, I might complain a great deal about our government, certain policies, excessive and self-serving taxation but I have no intentions of renunciation of my citizenship.

    Thumbs up Not bragging

Although there are a number of destinations in the EU which hold interest to us, we see no reason to experience a devalued currency exchange as a penalty to visit.

What are your opinions regarding the stability or instability of the Euro during the next twelve months? Is this the year to travel in EU countries or not?
Glad we guessed right on the € vs $ currency futures early this year. The 'move' during the past seven months will basically finance the upcoming trip to Portugal.

This has been quite a passionate thread. (I was reading back a few pages)
We saw a prime example of the Euro change in Valencia Spain this last weekend. I bought a glass of wine at a patio restaurant in a busy part of town for E2 and paella for 2 was 12--it had to be reasonable because the locals can't afford to eat otherwise. (Not so in Barcelona 2 months ago--very pricey for everything!)
O--I hope the rates are good to you in Portugal (I am SO ENVIOUS!)

Thanks, kyshel.....Portugal is looking just fine.

The original question was based on a hunch we had on a currency futures move for the Euro.

This means good news if you intend to visit the EU. Today it will cost you $1.23 to buy 1 Euro. On Sep. 11, 2011, it would have cost you $1.45 to buy a Euro. So the Euro is coming down.

    Good news?

    Still sounds too expensive, unless.

Well, unless you are able to fine a fabulous auction deal here on Luxury Link and use some travel award tickets to fly. Then, I still have to buy beer over there.
