Ah mountie, but the beer is so much better over here..... and so many more choices. Every little town has its own brewery. Besides, the "Gemuetlichkeit" with Schuhplattlern and Dirndln is just perfect. We are going to our local Beer/Summerfest next Monday.

There are still a few prime options in Europe that use their own currency--Hungary (forint), Czech Republic (koruna and the birth place of Pilsner!), Croatia (kuna), Slovenia, Slovakia...

    You forgot a few:
    United Kingdom (The Pound Sterling)
    Danemark (Danish Krone)
    Sweden (Swedish Krona),
    Bulgaria (Bulgarian Lev)
    Latvia (Latvian Lats)
    Lithuania (Lithuanian Litas)
    Poland (Polish Zloty)
    Romania (Romanian Leu)

Slovenia and Slovakia use the Euro since 2004.
Out of the 27 European nations, 10 nations do not use the Euro.

However, there are additonal 18 countries in Europe that do not belong to the European Union and therefore use their own currencies or have accepted the Euro due to being closely linked via a customs union to a neighboring country (like Monaco to France, or Vatican City to Italy, etc.):

    Iceland
    Norway
    Switzerland
    Serbia
    Montenegro
    Croatia
    Bosnia-Herzegovina
    Macedonia (Former Yugoslav Republic of)
    Albania
    Andorra
    Belarus
    Moldova
    Monaco
    San Marino
    Liechtenstein
    Vatican City
    Russia
    Ukraine

So, yes, you do have more than a few options left if you want to avoid the Euro.

I didn't forget anything--I chose not to list all destinations.
    "..." refers to additional

Have you ever spent any money in Vatican City? Interesting.
    Just found this:

Yes, you can actually spend money in Vatican City, but you pay in Euros. All the Vatican Museum items are priced in Euros, and all shops and restaurants within Vatican City use the Euro. Wikipedia says "Vatican euro coins are issued by the Philatelic and Numismatic Office of the Vatican City State and minted by Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), in Rome, Italy. The euro is the official currency of the Vatican City, although the Vatican is not a member of the European Union."
Your link to the Irish attempt to bring back the Punt is interesting, but not necessarily unique.
The French, or pockets within France, also still deal in the old currency the French Frank. Here is the link: BBC News - Eurosceptic French town rejects euro
While Germany is doing quite well economically, there are many older Germans that bemoan the passing of the Deutschmark, but I think, the Euro is here to stay.

Side note: Just met a Flybe FA at a wine tasting here. He and a friend went to Croatia this summer. Said it was great but Bulgaria had awesome food and prices! WHo would have thought? Maybe that will be an up and coming destination feature in Budget Travel.

Side note, what is a Flybe FA? Yes, I hear many good things about Croatia as well. Dubrovnik and the hotel Argentina that omegaet recommended ia while back s definitely on my list for next year. Would be nice if LL could come of with some nice packages in Croatia.

Yep--I just happened to chat with this young man (he was buying beer and we convinced them both to join the tasting) I have never met a flight attendant for an overseas LCC so it was really fun to squeeze in as much chitchat in a short time. These guys were so nice--one was a local from Ky! Small world!

    Now, what's an overseas LCC?
Thanks for the Cheap Flights & Budget Flight Tickets | Flybe UK info.
As you can see, I am not too well versed in the Flight jargon and abbreviations.
