keep on writing!!!
Not to diss long time, knowledgeable awardees, but maybe it's time to give some others the thrill of joining this exclusive club.Quote:
I don't think longevity as a member has anything to do with awarding certificates. I assume it's based on informative posts and frequent, meaningful participation in the community. I don't see these GC's as entitlement--I treasure every one and hope lots more [and new] people add significant travel knowledge to enhance all our experiences.
I'm with kapper, jmbjlk, I don't post enough, nor do I expect to, as I come in and out of this site, as needs and time allow. Have been busy with other things and not doing much traveling lately. (saving up for a big one in 2012). We have been enjoying using a cruise ship as a base, and have found it difficult to find LL properties on either end of those journeys to meet our timing or locations (although we did use one in Amsterdam). LL didn't have any properties in a small German village (didn't even see a B&B there), on the Dutch border, which was the source of DH's ancestors 300 yrs ago, that he wanted to see.
Love being on the water and the more relaxed pace of carefully chosen itineraries and ships, with plenty of sea days.
Have posted at Cruise Critic lately, so this LL site was really the first place we started checking & hopefully contributing, to on-line travel blogs. Next week we start a series of beginning French lessons, as we want to return to France. Also venture into French Canadian territory. Maybe at some point in the future the balance between dollars and euros will be more favorable.
As it is impossible to keep up with everything in the field, still depend upon posters here, with their wide range of sources, to alert us to offers, etc. This site has been a gateway to other sources. Now also check with Cruise Critic, NYT & Boston Globe travel sections, Rick Steves, Frommers, Lonely Planet, etc.
It's just good to see some others get a whack at the certificate pinata, including you! Glad you have one and know you will enjoy it.
I know I really value these certificates since I can not afford to travel much and these certificates come in very handy, plus I enjoy writing about my experiences. I have to admit that my husband & I are probably in the minority on this site - we are far from high income, have no rewards credit cards from hotels or airlines and these certificates enable us to travel and stay in nice places and also give us the ability to bundle packages together for 10-14 day stays. I try very hard to keep active with comments, etc. on the threads and the one quarter I did not make the list was disappointing but I understood since I had not contributed much during that period. I keep recommending friends to the site in the hopes that they will do an auction and I get the $100 referral bonus but so far everyone is so reluctant to use an auction site even though I tell them that I have purchased many auctions on here and it is very legitimate! I appreciate LL and all that it offers me
I like that when I use up my special GC's I can still get a little discount from promotions-like ThankYou's and similar. I'm so frustrated this current quarter because I can't travel due to medical issues but I can still check in and try to keep up my status with posts and advice. I have LOTS of time on my hands for several more weeks!
DH--you've done a great combo trip using multiple GC's and I hope you get back into a steady rhythm with your posts. We all go so many different places. I do wish more of my referrals to the airline industry would WAKE UP to LL, too.
I have yet to understand the exact formula for awarding of VIP Certificates. That's part of the mystery and that's just fine with me.
I have received a number of certs over the past several years and I have enjoyed each and every one. I am totally comfortable with the award system, whatever it is. I realize my real live obligations often get in the way of daily participation here in the community and as such, some quarters I am more fortunate than others as award times.
I must quickly add, that some of other regular contributors have added valuable information as well as inspiration in their many, many postings. Chatter is fun and can be entertaining and sharing readily available links to popular travel subjects is worthwhile.
However, IMO, those VIPs who take the time and effort to share their unique, firsthand experiences, probably deserve to be at the front of the line when the VIP certs are distributed.
Well, the new list of VIP Cert recipients will soon be published.
