11-25-2011, 12:31 AMWhy Mostly Females?
Why is it that most of the members in the community are females? Do females control most of the travel decisions?

I think the LL community members are representative of the the people who are real travel nuts (fans?) in the general public. I don't know about you, but in my circle of friends, coworkers, and other acquaintances, I know more women who like to travel a lot, compared to the men in their lives. I think that's also why there are several travel agencies and clubs focused on women. I know so many women who like to travel and their husbands don't. I'm one example.
Also, some say...women are better with details, although I'm not so sure about this one. Maybe women are better with planning all the details. Or they are willing to spend more time on the internet finding the good travel opportunities.

Don't know about the others, but Boss just wants to know what to pack, All the rest is up to me--all the shopping (he hates THAT), scouting, planning, rading.
He reads the travelguide on the flight and says, " hey, that looks good". he has his niche and I have mine."wherever you go, there you are"

Good question, mountie.
I found the following regarding some social networking research.
I guess the Luxury Link Community (soon to be renamed - I still like Lounge), to some extent, falls into social networking, especially considering the involvement of Twitter & Facebook.
*84% (16 out of 19) of the sites have more female than male users
*Twitter and Facebook have almost the same male-female ratio; Twitter with 59% female users and Facebook with 57%.
*The most female-dominated site? Bebo (66% female users), closely followed by MySpace and Classmates.com (64%).
*The average ratio of all 19 sites was 47% male, 53% female.
As to who 'controls' the travel decisions.....could be a lot of factors, including who dominates the research involved in opportunity factors, etc.
Guess, in our case, we're pretty open to democratic decision making.
Can't recall a lot of males participating in the community...certainly the ratio, during our time here, has been female dominate.- Ω -

Might have something to do with who does the travel research and who controls the purse string when it comes to travel....
Most often it is the female who has a pretty good idea of the expense budget and on how much is left over for travel.

11-25-2011, 01:15 PMNeither of the males in my family could probably carry on a meaningful dialogue in this community. One is too consumed with work and the other is developing calluses with his text messages. The big travel decisions fall on my shoulders and then I listen to their critiques of how the decisions should have been made.

11-29-2011, 04:13 AMAs a female, I enjoy the creative process involved in travel planning. I am willing devote the time to exploring ideas which I think add to final experience. I guess, in a sense, the journey begins before the physical journey begins. Maybe not so much the case for most males.

I don't think that most males spend as much time posting on this type of website as females do. Check out any list of internet contest winners and most of the winners are females.
