Does anybody have any idea why there are so few Luxury Link packages available on Maui. There are only two available at the present time, neither of which is a particularly good deal. After booking airline tickets to Maui for spring break, I went to the Luxury Link website, expecting several pages of great offers, only to be severely disappointed. What's up with that?
I think it might be the law of supply & demand. Maui is always in demand. BTW, I'm hoping to plan a Hawaii trip, now that I own a timeshare there (big island) but the airfares seem sky high every time I look.Quote:

I went to Maui a couple of years ago and was able to stay at the Four Seasons Wailea a few days ONLY because I stalked the Four Seasons website. I had completely planned to stay somewhere else but a good deal (low $200s/night) opened up a few days before I went and I grabbed it. This for a hotel that regularly charges 350+ per night. I have noticed that sometimes Four Seasons will occasionally offer some deals on their website for different FS hotels if they know their occupancy will be low. I just tried looking it up on LL, but keep getting an error when looking for a FourSeasons package in Hawaii.
What part of Maui are you going to? I just booked four nights at the Hyatt and then we'll head over to Hana. I lived in Hana from 1991 to 1995 and haven't been back in around fifteen years. I hope it hasn't changed too much.
My friends who drove to Hana 2 yrs ago said the route was choked with tour buses and the waterfall stops were crowded with humans in loud shirts!
Maybe my trips to Hawaii involved too great a time span. The first time in the late 1980s bouncing about the islands was exciting and beautiful.Quote:

I can believe the road to Hana was clogged, I was actually physically scared driving it. Tour buses, loads of tourists and sharp mountainside turns are not conducive to safe driving! The only part of it I actually enjoyed was the back side, past Hana, where the road was only wide enough for 1 car and you had to keep blowing your horn so you didn't run into someone coming from the other direction! And pray you didn't have to back up if you were on one of the cliffside turns!
That's really discouraging. I lived in Hana from 1991 to 1995 and the road was anything but clogged. The locals, including myself, would get frustrated by the slow driving tourists, but it wasn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be. In fact, there weren't any tourist buses. Most of the tourists with groups came to Hana in vans. Believe it or not, the road was actually safer to drive at night than during the day. Far less traffic and you could see the headlights of approaching cars. I'll see how much it's changed when I go there in March.
My favorite island is Kauai - although I have not been to Molokai or Lanai yet and have heard they are still relatively nice compared to Maui and Oahu
