Amsterdam and Copenhagen
Hi - I'm planning a trip in the Spring to Eastern Europe (the Ukraine) and want to stop somewhere interesting on the way back. It will be tulip season, so Amsterdam came to mind. But I've never been to Copenhagen so that may be another possibility. Would love to book through LL, but I don't see any offerings for any of these places. If I say "pretty please", will you put a nice package up?

I enjoyed Copenhagen immensely. It's such a dynamic and walkable city with many activities right in the centre of town. English is spoken everywhere. The Stroget isone of the longest pedestrian streetsin Europeand offers amazing shopping, eating, and people watching. Restaurants serving all kinds of food are readily available. It seems like the Danes love to eat!
Tivoli Gardens is not to be missed. A huge amusementpark with continuous entertainment, shows and rides all day long. There are at least 25 full service restaurants, and umpteen cafes and food stands inside the park.A huge fireworks with a giant parade closes the park at the end of each day. The park is open only during the warmer months of the year.
The history in the Baltics goes back hundreds of years with the Vikings. Denmark still has a Royal family and changing of the guards every day can be seen by its citizens and visitors in Copenhagen.
Old, old buildings and structuresare often still in use. Theoutside facade looks really old, yet the inner space is completely remodelledlike the inside of an Ikea store. Very contemporary and airy.
Copenhagen can serve as a base for a visit to the Baltics. Great public transportation and connections are available to Sweden, Estonia, Finland and Germany.
Currently there's no LL package offeredin Scandinavia. It'll be greatif LL can offer up a coupleof 4 or 5 star property packagesin Copenhagen.

I agree; Amsterdam and Copenhagen would both be great places for LL properties. For Scandinavia, it would be great to have "pairings" of properties like LL does in Italy,.. for example Copenhagen and Oslo, or Copenhagen and Stockholm. All three cities are very expensive, so a break on room rates would be most welcome!

If you do make it to Amsterdam, be sure you stayat the Pulitzer hotel (5 stars). I understand there is a movement to get rid of the Red Light District due to the rising crime rate.
Have fun.

Another great recommendation for a hotel in Amsterdam is Radisson SAS. It's very central, the service is excellent and the breakfast is wonderful.
In Scandinavia we don't have those very fantastic, expencive, luxury hotels, but we don't have very bad hotels either. The best hotel in Copenhagen has to be D'Angleterre. I have never stayed there, but I have heard it's fantastic. I have been to a seminar there and the food is excellent. The location is also very nice. Another great hotel is Radisson SAS Royal Copenhagen (be aware there are more than one Radisson hotel in Copenahgen and the Royal is the best and has the best location). The Tivoli garden is not only open in the summer, but also in December.
I can't tell you what city I would rate over the other, they are both very nice.

Re: Amsterdam and Copenhagen
Hi no-backpacker and thanks for the recommendations! I decided on Copenhagen, partly because I haven't been there before and have been to Amsterdam. I booked the Copenhagen Marriott, or I should say Priceline selected the hotel for me. But the price was right! Tivoli Garden should be open while we are there in May, so we're looking forward to that. Any other suggestions for things to do or see? I will admit that I don't own any high heeled shoes, so all activities will be in comfortable footwear!

To be honest, I have never been to Copenhagen as a tourist, only for business and short "shopping-trips". But Copenhagen is always nice. Go down "Stroget", have lunch at Cafe Norden and then have a walk at Nyhavn. I have never taken the "tourist-boats" from Nyhavn, but if it's nice weather I suppose it would be great. For dinner I can recommend a restaurant called Peder Oxe: http://pederoxe.dk. You have to book a table because it's always full. If anybody suggest you to go to Peder Oxes "sister restaurant" (I don't remember the name right now), don't do it. I went there once, can't remember why I didn't like it, but I didn't...

Another nice place to have lunch is Jensens Boefhous http://www.jensens.com/. It's very typical Danish and they have the best salad-buffet. I ALWAYS have to eat lunch there and usually I only order the salad-buffet.
There are lots of restaurants inside Tivoli Garden, but in my opinion, they are overpriced and not the best.
I don't know who you are going with to Copenhagen or your interests, but if you are going with children there is a zoo outside Copenhagen. I have not been there, only when I was a little child, but my son was there with my mother in law when he was 8 and he loved it. There is also a planetarium, but I don't know where. I can remember I went there with my father when I was 16, and I remember it was in the city. There is also a "Guiness record" museum in the middle of the city.
After all Copenhagen is a relaxing city and I love to just relax, eat, drink and watch the people. It's great for shopping too as all the Scandinavian and international designers have shops there.

Re: Amsterdam and Copenhagen
Hi no-backpacker. Thank you so much for your suggestions! I am actually going with husband and my parents, so we are the children. But we love animals and might enjoy the zoo. I was noticing there is also an aquarium at Tivoili. I love the idea for the restaurant with the salad buffet! Will definately try that and Peder Oxe. I just ordered a city map to try to learn my way around ahead of time.... I enjoy the planning. I'm not usually so much into shopping, but I love Danish design so will be interested to look at furniture, kitchen stuff etc. and possibly buy fabrics. Thanks again. I may have questions as I get closer, but I'm off to a good start!
