I was very fortunate to go to Bucharest a few years ago (when Delta had service from JFK).
I hope the tourism infrastructure has improved--it was very daunting to get a rental car or find many restaurants with air conditioning. we were in a terrible heatwave that year--105 in Bucharest and Budapest--Whew! with I believe we were there just before they began work on the promenade. Fascinating city!

Hello Kyshel,
Things have improved tremendously! There is so much to do, not only in Bucharest but also in the surrounding areas. The infrastructure has improved greatly! We now have all major international rental car agencies, however, I would never suggest driving in Bucharest unless absolutely necessary. The promenade is very close to completion as we hosted the 2012 European Soccer Cup. We welcomed over 40,000 visiting Spaniards and they were very happy with the services offered. Bucharest can now be considered a European capital worthy of a visit. If anyone reading this post is interested in traveling to the area I would be happy to provide more information. The Transfagarasan road is not to be missed, rated as one of the most dangerous in Europe, as well as the Brasov-Sinaia region and the city of Sibiu.

Many thanks Daniel! My husband's family is Romanian (third generation) and one of our best friends is from Bucharest (now a very proud US citizen!) I hope someday to return and see more of the country, like my husband has. I only had a few layover days in Bucharest with the crew, but I came face to face with Keifer Sutherland at the hotel (I used to have a crush on his father!) We were there in 2007. I think they were doing an episode of 24.
