CLUE:
Europeans first learned of this location when Amerigo Vespucci and Alonso de Ojeda happened upon it in August 1499.

I'm listed as an Occasional Sightseer? I've sailed on 16 cruises in the past 32 years; just returned from 4th cruise in the Mediterrean out of Barcelona last week. Member of Ski Club; trips to Europe include Chamonix, Zermatt, Interlaken, and N. Italy. Also, use Rick Steves' book to travel in France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, and Turkey. Sightseeing is my specialty.

I agree with lewis365 - its Aruba. I've read several different entries from people and the feeling for Aruba is just so so. I was wondering if lewis365 (or other posters) had a favorite Caribbean island?Fingers crossed, thatone of the favorites is Puerto Rico as I can fly out of Atlanta very cheaply. I also have two small children who travel well - so safety and a moderate budget are a consideration.

In response to amarandi, my favorite island in the Caribbean is St. Marteen/St. Maritn. My husband & I scuba dive & we liked the beaches, one side is French & the other is Dutch. We stayed on the dutch side in a complex on the beach, a studio that had a kitchen. We rented a car& drove around the island. We went to Puerto Rico last August w/ my adult son& his girlfriend, we didn't care too much for it, we stayed at the Grand Melia resort which has a very nice beach & pool and there were many families there with their children, maybe better for you.We did feel like we were held hostage on the resort, it beingon the other side of Puerto Rico from the San Juan airport. The foo was very expensive at the resort. Also, we really like St. John's/ US virgin islands as most of the island is a Natl. park; need to flyto St. Thomas & take the ferry over to St. John.Very beautiful and we loved the beaches. We have a friend that lives there and she teaches swimming and sailing lessonsto children.
