CLUE:
In the early stages of this locations development , the story goes that the town evolved out of a hacienda and later communal ejidal territory into a humble fishing village still named after the patron saint San Francisco. For decades, the handful of families that made up the town fished for their subsistence, and raised livestock and local fruit crops.

You're correct. It's definitely San Pancho. San Pancho is just north of Sayulita, which is around an hour north of Puerto Vallarta. Very cute little town. Not much to do in San Pancho, but there's an ecological preserve right on the beach with thousands of birds. Two palapas on the beach where you can enjoy some ceviche and a margarita. Great restaurant called Las Olas (The Waves), which is on the main street in town. Which I was there right now.

I did some investigating, thepiranha, and the locals are very concerned about the state of the preserve due to construction of this resort complex. Apparently it's still in the process of expansion and hasn't been completed.

That's very sad. There were literally thousands of birds in the water and in the trees at the preserve. I really hope that it's not destroyed to build the resort. Thanks for letting me know about that. I'll see what I can find on the internet.
