Re: LL Hot Deals – Revamped and Updated
Dear LL Moderator KS
I think that I am as confused as others.
Is it that:
1. you are reviewing the posts by the Community, and as a result of some of the comments from others on messages, that you are determining / deducing hotels that are well appreciated by community members and it is those comments that makes a property a 'hot deal'? or
2.a hotel that has been identified somehow (for exampleas appreciated by others) has an auction offeringthat is exceptional value for money and that value element makes the property a 'hot deal'?
Finally, is there a means to provide input on what some of us would think is good value for money, and also a high quality property that has something special about it, that in our own view is a 'hot' deal? If so, could you explain how we would feed that information, or perhaps create a 'vote' system.
My own view is that a hot deal suggests a high quality property, that is valuefor money, that has been endorsed by some who have been. And if those factors are the ones that count, by the way, a few of us have already recognized the Hotel Bellevue in Cogne, Aosta, Italy as one of those exceptional 'little gems' of a property. (little thread opened by Travelfan).
Grateful for any clarification that you could provide.
kind regards, as always....
Re: LL Hot Deals – Revamped and Updated
Hello,
I saw something in one of my recent LL emails which makes me wonder if the 'Hot Deals' properties are the ones which have proven the most popular in the latest round of auctions. There was a section in the email listing which properties had received the highest number of bids, and there seeemed to be quite a bit of overlap with the 'Hot Deals' properties...
I think it would be great if there was a way we could nominate properties for listing as a 'Hot Deal' -- maybe we could have an Editors' Hot Deal section and a Community Hot Deal section, where the properties in the second section were nominated by community members (sort of like how Conde Nast Traveller has an Editors' Gold List and a Reader's Choice Gold List).
Curtiejoe: yes, we do like the warmer winters...though we could do without the accompanying scorching summers, as we live in a country which has yet to discover air conditioning! Even the wards at the hospital aren't air conditioned...
Cheers,
Julian

Re: LL Hot Deals – Revamped and Updated
Hi Julian
I recall watching the Wimbledon tennis championship games that took place in the summer two years ago. Courtside temperatures ranged between 35 and 40C for several days! The commentators kept saying that such intense heat had not been recorded in England within living memory. I got a taste of the same sort of thing later that year when I visited London in October for three days. Daytime temps were at a balmy 28C then and the house I stayed at on Golden Lane just north of the Barbican Centre also had no A/C, so I sweltered both inside and outside. If that's 'global warming' I just wish a bit of it came our way here in Toronto in the midddle of our freezing winter. By the way, I think your suggestion for a Conde Nast-type lisying of auctions would be very helpful.

Re: LL Hot Deals – Revamped and Updated
Hello Curtiejoe,
I'm not a computer programmer, but it seems like it should be relatively simple for us to email or PM the editors with our nominations for 'hot deals'....maybe not weekly, but bi-weekly or monthly should be doable.
Or maybe specific contributors could be responsible for keeping an eye on particular geographical regions or styles (e.g. cruises) and flagging good deals...Mary-J could keep an eye on the Middle East, I could keep an eye on Africa, and you could keep an eye on Canada, and Obrien could keep an eye on Italy. People who have travelled to an area before would probably have a good sense of whether a particular deal offers good value for money.
Cheers,
Julian
Re: LL Hot Deals – Revamped and Updated
Hi Julian
I agree that it should be fairly easy to get our ideas/suggestions on Hot Deals across to the LL Community Moderators. I just think that the way things are currently set up on the Community, combined with the exponential explosion of posts by en ever increasing number of Contributors is making it very difficult for the Moderators to keep current with everything. While I like your suggestion about specific Contributors keeping an eye on certain geographic areas of the world, I think that may also become cumbersome as time goes on. also, I'm sure we are all very busy people who have other interests and diversions to keep us occupied, least of all while we're away travelling to exotic locales where there may be no or limited Internet access available (as in Cuba) and where we'll also be distracted by the wonderful new sights and sites. Perhaps the best thing would be for a special 'Comments/Suggestion' section to be set up under the 'Hot Deals' Board, so that anyone could input their ideas quickly and easily?!

It appears that the Moderators have not answered any questions posed about Hot Deals. As I frequently check these, could we please get answers?
Thanks.
