I think I have the ZS-1 model (as the better one isn't compatible with MACs). We are in LOVE with the Camera.

Re: camera for our safari
OMG, it's getting close to our departure - less than 3 weeks, and for the next 2 weeks, I am out of town working, so that limits some of my time getting ready & finalizing things.
Thanks for the comments on the camera & the binoculars. I bought binoculars - 10 x 42 - after researching them on a binocular site. Just got them & haven't used them yet.
I had a quick trip recently to Tucson where I used my new camera for the 1st time - works great and it was easy to load them into iphoto on my MAC.Life is too short.........travel now!

We bought some special small binoculars and never used them once--one vehicle even had night vision binocs to use"wherever you go, there you are"

Re: Binoculars. Where we were, the rangers did have a set of binos in each jeep and when he/she wasn't using them he/she let the guests use them, but while the others were passing them around and adjusting them each time, we were sitting there counting the eyelashes on the elephant or spotting a lion a quarter mile away. At dusk, we could actually see better through the binos than without. For birds they are almost essential. And we saw lots of birds. We spent a fair amount of time in boats looking at hippos, crocs, birds and animals on shore. We also spent a fair amount of time on decks looking out over the water holes with the binos (there was one set in our room at Sabi Sabi earth lodge but they were not comfortable for me and we used our own exclusively. Up until I bought these I had never used good binos (and may never again), but for us they made a huge difference and were a relatively inexpensive addition to the trip. Plus (and this of course is highly personal), I think they looked cool.
