01-18-2008, 06:23 PMDubai - would teenagers enjoy it?
Would this destination be interesting to teenagers?? Ages 17 and 19. We're looking for a rendezvous spot for the Easter break since one in in school in North America and the other at university in the UK. Europe (skiing) and/or North Africa came to mind but then I started reading about Dubai.
One likes to scuba dive (I hear there is better diving in the Red Sea), the other likes shopping.. But aside from that is there anything that would be of interest to them? Is it safe enough for them (2 girls) to wander about on their own as they are used to?
Some of the properties seem a bit over the top with respect to price - i.e. more than the cost of the 13hr airfare for one night stay! Any recommendations for a nice hotel, good location? We've already stayed in a desert type hotel (Longitude 131 in Australia) so would probably prefer to stay near the water rather than the desert.
Thanks for any advice...

Re: Dubai - would teenagers enjoy it?
yes teenagers would love Dubai and you have the massive Emirates Mall with the ski slope connected to it. They could go into the desert and do the Dune Bashing and also sand-boarding too. There are also some wonderful nightclubs but you won't get bars like at home. All the bars are attached to the hotels. Yes, the hotels are somewhat expensive, but they just ooze luxury. there are some lovely cheaper 4 star hotels on the beach which may be an option. Another option could be apartments rather than a hotel. There are apartments just built right on the Marina and you have the choice of your balcony overlooking the Marina or overlooking The Arabian Gulf and The Palm island. These apartments are called Emirates Harbour Hotel and Residences. You can have studio, one, twoor three bedroom apartments. You still get all the same attention as if you were in a hotel with turn down service, housekeeping and bedlinen and towel changes. These apartments are massive and have floor to ceiling windows. You also have a free shuttle over to it's sister hotel to use their private beach which is only about a minute away. the apartments do have their own pool though. They are very luxurious and at the moment they have some fantastic offers on. If you go on to "trip advisor" and type in the name of them on the search button, then you can read all the reviews and there are some wonderful photo's which the guests have posted. I think they would be ideal for your family. If you need anymore info then just ask. Hope this helps.
Keep us posted as to where you finally decide on.
cheers,
Maryjo
