So many great looking lodges for Africa packages

So many great looking safari lodges listed now for Tanzania and Kenya - I wish I could grab one now but hubby does not think he has enough vacation time left for this year ;-(
Although - not sure if Tanzania & Kenya are safe enough yet to go - there have been some stories about travel in Kenya. Conde Nast Traveler did a recent story on Tanzania "Is it safe to go back?" and the feeling was mixed. anyone been to either country recently?

Denise--are you talking about the Zimbabwe article? I read it twice, and I am still considering Vic Falls, Zimbabwe pkg LL tied into our safari near Kruger this fall. I loved the idea of adding a few days in Kapama Karula or another lodge near Hoedspruit--or adding something in Zimbabwe, up the Zambezi River added to Vic Falls. We have 2 wks, so plan on 10+ days travel.
I've been working on whether we can easily access Kenya or Tanzania as standby pax, I m under the impression that Nairobi is way way diff from Joburg but those properties are so gorgeous!
I think they may have to wait for us, but the off-season rates are excellent--even the beach stay and the all-inclusives are such a treat.
I'm agonizing as well...

D--take a bit of time to watch the film "Mugabe and the White African" Pretty gritty.
I have hesitated about Zimbabwe, but after reading further, I only feel like I want to visit at least Vic Falls to see the wonder and add to the local economy.

Yes sorry is was the Zimbabwe article - I remember it did say folks are going back to Victoria Falls lodge and that for awhile they barely had any guests. I did read somewhere, probably another magazine about Kenya and Tanzania - especially Kenya - there have been some kidnappings from some of the beach resorts on Kenya's northeastern shore near Sudan - pirates expanding their base of operations, etc.
I have to admit those Explorean lodges and Diamond lodges do look amazing!

Once I get all the details set for our Bali trip this May, I'll be exploring options for Africa.

I need to do more research on VIc Falls Zim side and find an additional place to visit while there. We have 2 wks total, including Kapama Karula, which means back and forth via JNB airport. I really like this website:
