fly from Bangkok to Cambodia?
Hi,
Anyone ever fly from Bangkok to Cambodia?
The 2 countries look to be close so you would think that you could fly to Cambodia and spend a few dyas and then go to Bangkok for about 5 days or so and then fly back home but all the searches I have done are coming up with airfare way over $2000 per person. Any tips or ideas? Open to suggestions
I fly out of Philadelphia or could do Newark
thanks

I believe Thai Airways has a lock on the BKK/REP flights. meaning they are a bit high. There is a train (see seat61.com) and of course driver/car.
Get your air from PHL to BKK best deal you can get but that sounds about right from east coast. You can price east to west coast then add cheaper fare LAX etc to BKK. It might work better. You can do that either with one airline w/partners to facilitate baggage transfer or book sep tickets if you have generous time to allow to connect.
DL has PHL/US gateways/NRT (several options) then NRT/BKK.
They now have upgradable coach for long haul flights--extra legroom and seat recline."wherever you go, there you are"

There is just something about paying around $3 - 4,000 for 2 tickets for a coach seat that does not sit well with me!
I tried all the sites like Orbitz, Expedia, Cheap Air, etc. but was coming up with really high airfare and this did not even include the Bangkok to Cambodia fare. I was just doing PHL - Cambodia and then BKK to PHL and figured I could do the BKK to Cambodia part when I got there but am beginning to wonder if it will be worth all the hassle for 5 nights in Bangkok and 3 in Cambodia.
Summer is our decision time and we are trying to decide on our winter trip
thanks for the info and will look into it

That is a LONG way to go for 8 nights, I agree. Did you try pricing it the Eastbound direction (just for curiosity)? Take a look at whichbudget.com for Asian LCC, likely not on major search sites.

I actually found a RT fare from Philly to Bangkok for $995 on Continental - not too bad. If we do go to Thailand it would be in Feb/March 2012 - how is the weather, etc. that time of year?
However, I was searching airfares for all of my possible destinations and Costa Rica and Mexico are all in the $535 RT range so it may end up being "back to Latin America for us"

I doubt you can get a better fare to BKK from the east coast than that Continental--darn that's GOOD! There is so much to do in BKK and surrounding areas--train to Siem Reap doesn't add too much. If you pass on the high end LL pkgs and do something like Eugenia or suite hotels (there are oodles!) you can get the full advantage of great prices on food and digs in Thailand. I have a really interesting guest house owned by Thai guide/driver. It's not in the immediate tourist areas like riverfront or Siam Center but it's quite special in that it's local. So easy to get around on the skytrain or taxi/ferry. That Siem Reap LL deal is really special, too. I don;t envy you trying to decide but if you can swing the time, I'd go for your Thai dream...
