Has anyone been to Laos?
I just saw a new offering from OE:

I might not have considered Laos, if not for LL. Now, I'm looking at possible ways to get there from HKG or BKK. I haven't even checked visa requirements. I'm just in the temptation phase...
Any thoughts to share?"wherever you go, there you are"

kyshel, looks like this is another O-E property. Are you keen on returning to an O-E property after your recent trip to the O-E Miraflores Park property. I have an uncle who was involved in some trips into Laos, but that was another time many years ago and not under luxury conditions.

Jsattpr2--The Miraflores PArk Hotel was quite nice--the food and restaurants fell short. I have yet to write about the excellent pre-arrival service from an OE staff member, as well as the quality of our suite. Yes, I did notice that the Laotian property is OE--it was mentioned on the first line regarding my inquiry.
Regarding your uncle--I appreciate his military service (if that's your reference?) and I hope I don't have weird dreams of Col. Kurtz or see Martin Sheen whilst cruising the Mekong River...
I just started reading a bit of trvael advice and plan to hit the library today. It looks promising as an exotic destination."wherever you go, there you are"

Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam is one of my dream vacations - Angor Wat, etc.
I know Cambodia and Vietnam are starting to be up and coming vacation destinations with some real luxury resorts - I have not read much on Laos and tourism not even from backpacking sites. If you go - write up your experiences!Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

Re: Has anyone been to Laos?
Denise, I am so torn about going to Laos and Cambodia. I really want to TRY a semi-unplanned trip since so much of Asia can be explored thru local agents YET I love a bit more pre-set structured itinerary in a far-away, first-time destination.
I thank my husband almost every day for the travel benefits we have with the airlines--to be able to revisit an exotic place rather inexpensively and have to add thanks to LL for some of the fab finds we've bought here.
When we went to Bali, I thought I'd died and gone to Heaven--now I realize, we can go back (that Puri Wulandari Villa looks very tempting; Hanging Gardens of Ubud notwithstanding....) Hopefully, continued good health will allow us to get a taste of Laos soon and return another time to see and experience more."wherever you go, there you are"
