Inaugural Asia Board post!
Any other Asia travelers out there?
I don't get to travel to Asia as much as I would like, but here are some of my favorite spots in Asia.
Let's hear about yours!
Favorite city with old world charm: HANOI
The old quarter of Hanoi with its unique combination of Asian and French architecture is fun to explore by foot or by cyclo. Take your time to stroll the narrow streets....great boutique shops and street stall dining.
Favorite modern, bustling city: BANGKOK
Glitz, glam and high rise condos...but scratch the surface and most Thais with cell phones, designer purse or European cars are still devout Buddhists at heart.
Favorite Island: BALI
Mystical, magical, and friendly....Bali is quite unlike any other place in Asia. Despite the sad horrors of the recent terrorist bombings, the Balinese are open for business and love western tourists. If you wish to visit but want to avoid the busier areas, check out the artist town of Ubud, or the less discovered North or East coasts.
Place to go NOW, before it is totally Disney-ified- ANGKOR WAT
If you have the slightest interest in ancient ruins, or are just a fan of the Tomb Raider movie, you must visit Angor Wat in Cambodia. The town/city of Siem Reap adjacent to the ruins is booming with new hotels...go now before the ruins are totally over run with tour groups.

Re: Inaugural Asia Board post!
Great inaugural Asia post cruisinred! I've enjoyed a few trips to Asia (China, Japan and India) and am looking forward to many more including the places you mention as I have not yet been. My all-time favorite worldwide city so far has to be Hong Kong. It has the beauty of San Francisco, the luxurious shopping and restaurants of New York and Paris, the modernity of Tokyo, plus history, seclusion, islands, views, culture and lots of fun.

Hi claassenam -
If you love HK, did you happen to see the auction for the hotel there? I don't recall seeing the property featured before, but it looked like a good deal at for a suite with city view for 3 nights. Maybe on your way to Bali, if you're still planning that?
