The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum is sponsoring the show "The Collection from Musee d'Orsay: The Artist's Paradise in the 19th Century" till April 8, 2007
At the time of rapid industrialization and urbanization in the second half of the 19th century, artists looked for quieter places where they could exercise their creativity. These could be distant lands, pastoral retreats or just the isolation of their own studios. The exhibition of 140 paintings, drawings and potographs, on loan from the Paris museum, focuses on depictions of what constituted paradise for such artists as van Gogh, Gauguin, Bonnard and Vuillard, among others: their families, their friends and their favorite places. www.orsay3.com
