Concerts in Vineyards in Australia
Concerts in Vineyards in Australia.
If you are thinking down under as a vacation option, and the objective is to experience great Aussie wines in a outdoor setting, then do your homework well in advance, and find out if there are any concerts in the vines in the region you are visiting, when you are visiting. Two reasons, if you want to visit a particular vineyard, you are on a tight schedule, and they are having a concert, and you dont have a ticket, you arent going to be welcome at the cellar door --- thats a disappointment. More importantly, if you want to see that vineyard, and you have tickets to a concert of someone you would really like to see in a perfect live and intimate relaxed performance setting, this is the way to go, especially when on holiday. First class.
To help you in your homework, I suggest the following websites (of course, not an all inclusive list as there are many wine regions of renown in Australia, and many do these sorts of events):
Hunter Valley (north of Sydney): www.winecountry.com.au
Winery in the HV that has hosted events:
Tempus Two Winery www.tempustwowinery.com.au with performances including Carole King, Elton John, Beach Boys, Michael Crawford, and upcoming Rod Steward in March 2008 and then kd Lang in April 2008.
Yarra Valley (north of Melbourne): www.visitvictoria.com
Winery in the YV that has hosted events:
Rochford Winery www.rochfordwines.com.au with performances including Norah Jones, Lionel Richie, opera, Shakespearean plays, salsa events, and upcoming Rod Steward in early March 2008
Keep in mind that there are Jazz festivals and Music festivals in the Vines and lots of other events throughout Australia, matched with wine. You have to keep your eyes open though, or youll end up somewhere, as I was recently, with Lionel Richie performing at a vineyard nearby, and not knowing about it early enough.
kind regards (i think i put in the correct websites ... if not, google can get you there)

Hi obrienkf,
We have long been drinking wine from Australia and enjoying their suttle differences. Now concerts in Australian vineyards puts a different twist ont the story. Wish Australia was a little closer so we could enjoy some of the events you write about. We look forward to your posts from "down under".
