07-01-2011, 03:27 AMNo, No, No.
Totally cannot believe the 'b%@#h' I invited to go to Peru has backed out 4 days before we are scheduled to depart!
Now working to salvage as much money as possible from the airlines for the tickets and exchanging emails with the hotels to attempt extending expiration dates.

Noticed this article which appeared in Living In Peru. Guess it would be wise to schedule your visit to Peru soon and avoid the future crowds.
PERU AIMS TO ATTRACT 5 MILLION TOURISTS IN 2016
By Manuel Vigo
December 10, 2011
On Friday, Carlos Canales, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), said Peru could attract up to five million tourists in 2016.
He said the goal was to promote tourism around the year, and not just seasonally, by attracting visitors from around South America.
Brazilian, Argentine and Chilean tourists usually travel from January to March, which are usually low tourism seasons for Peru, he said.
"We can easily increase the flow of tourists by promoting the country’s tourist areas regionally,” he said to Andina news agency.
He said that this would enable tourism to improve in the first quarter, and they would then aim for the European and American tourists, who travel in June, July and August.
"In this way, we could even exceed the government’s goal of reaching 3.6 million tourists in 2016," he said.
Canales said that if work were carried out properly -and a specialized Ministry of Tourism was created – tourism would become the country’s second largest source of income; second only to the mining industry.- Ω -

PERU AIMS TO ATTRACT 5 MILLION TOURISTS IN 2016
How awful! The place will be overrun by people. How can the fragile ecosystem of Machu Picchu cope with so many people. For those of us who are still planning to visit Machu Picchu, we better get there sooner than later.

I just read an article about Mac. Pic. that says the Peruvian government is planning on limiting the number of tourists to 2500 per day - it also mentioned that MP is now #1 on the list of places that folks want to visit the most - it displaced the pyramids of Giza as the #1 spot to see - I am guessing all the unrest in Egypt caused this since the pyramids have been #1 for so long.
