11-08-2009, 10:33 AMArgentina and wine country
We've been going back and forth about whether to go to Cape Town or Mendoza (we love wine) next spring and think we've decided on Mendoza. I'm figuring a two week trip that starts in Buenos Aires (three days), moves on to Mendoza for a week, then on to Santiago for three days and then home.
I looked for Luxury Link properties in these places and there weren't any -- but I'd so appreciate any feedback on good places to stay. In cities, we typically like to stay in neighborhoods (preferably where there's lots of life, culture, boutiques, restaurants, etc.,) as opposed to downtowns and touristic areas.
Not sure where to hone in re Mendoza, so totally open to suggestions.
Thanks!
Carolyn

Re: Argentina and wine country
I have one trip under my belt to BsAs. There are several members here with good experience there and the surrounds--Mendoza, etc.
I can offer my advice for 2-3 days in the city (we took an apt in Recoleta) and LL has 2 properties offered now and then (both of which I think are really high ticket for a reasonable place)
We plan to go back late this spring too and I hope we can branch out to Mendoza, but I think we're leaning towards Iguacu side trip.
BTW--we adore Cape Town and it's a fave target again for next year [AFTER the World Cup].
Both SA's are well-priced for US visitors."wherever you go, there you are"

Thanks, kyshel. Would love to know which properties you referenced that occasionally come up on Luxury Link!
I've spent some time here and there in Buenos Aires and usually find myself hanging out in Recoleta. But have stayed at hotels like the Claridge downtown and I think it was a high-end Sheraton (Park Tower?). But prefer smaller, more personal hotels.
Am curious to explore some of the city's newly hip neighborhoods. And just starting on the journey to Mendoza! I was inspired by a wine tasting at my favorite local wine store -- an Argentine winery making (natch) excellent Malbec.
