Eathquakes, volcanoes, OH MY!
Anyone else notice that Central & America have been very geologically active the past week.
7.9 earthquake in Costa Rica and volcanoes popping away in Mexico, Nicaragua and Ecuador - maybe the end of the world is coming!
It figures since we are going to CR in early November and Nica in March, although I am sure all will be fine by then ;-)Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

D-I only saw a brief comment on earthquakes in Costa Rica. I received an email from El Silencio Lodge in CR (I believe) thanking people for their thoughts and prayers. I haven't seen too much on the news. We will be in Ecuador in March. Yikes. Hadn't heard Ecuador was affected. 7.9 is pretty big.

Just saw on the news this morning that the volcano right outside of Antigua, Guatemala has joined the party - evacuated many folks and Mexico is monitoring the ash cloud to see how bad it gets. On the news it looked like a pretty good eruption. Looks like the activity is working its way along the chain. Wonder if it will work it way farther south into SA or further north into Mexico.
I have noticed that the planets are starting to align - all this week you could see the moon and Jupiter in a perfect straight alignment. In the Spring the moon was aligned with Venus & Mars but you can no longer see those 2 planets since they are now below the horizon (at least on the East Coast where I am) they are still lined up though just out of sight. Come December 21, the planets, moon and sun will all be in perfect straight alignment - wonder if there is anywhere you can actually see this once in a life time event. Has not happened for thousands of years.Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

09-15-2012, 06:00 AMWe live in San Jose, Costa Rica, and while that earthquake was loooooong, it didn't feel as strong as the numbers show. Good news is that they have very strict building codes in Costa Rica, so hopefully you are staying in a newer building! Our vacation rental at Peninsula Papagayo, which is much closer to the epicenter (and on a virtual cliff!), stayed on the cliff (whew) and had no damage.
Have a great time!

I will be staying down in the Dominical, Costa Rica area when we come in early November. I know this area is not as built up as other parts of CR so I am thinking there is probably not much in the way of damage down there. Nicaragua is not until March and I have not heard anything else about their volcano so I am thinking it was probably not a major eruption, although it was near enough to Granada that if it has a major eruption, it may impact the areas we are going to in Nica.
Let the fun begin!Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........
