11-20-2012, 09:43 AMJicaro Island - Lapa Rios
I just read through some of the postings and can't wait to hear from other LL members about your time at Jicaro Island in March. I hope both couples report back. I'm going for 3 nights in June with my husband and we're trying to figure out what else we're going to do while in Central America. I looked around at other options in Nicaragua, but we might decide to head over to Costa Rica instead. I wonder if Lapa Rios would ever have a special here at Luxury Link. I went last summer and would love to go back! It's a special place.

Hi Renee and Welcome!! Also look at Morgan's Rock in Nicaragua. We stayed a few times and loved it. If you go to CR, you will most likely be in the Liberia area. It is a bit more touristy. Have you been to Granada or Leon?

11-23-2012, 12:58 PMThank you. :-)
I've never been to Nicaragua but did see Morgan's Rock on LL. It looks like a nice option to me, but my husband said the pictures don't make him feel like he's "in a different world." I think the reality would be different from what he's seeing in the pictures, but he's not convinced. When he looks at Lapa Rios, it does capture his imagination. I'm not crossing Morgan's Rock off the list yet, but so far the deals here end before June, which is when we'll be travelling. If we end up combining Jicaro with Costa Rica, we probably would fly into San Jose because the price is much lower than flying to Liberia. In addition, while in the Central Valley, I know there are a few things we would enjoy seeing before heading to a different area of CR.
I'm going to keep my eyes open and if we see something else in Nicaragua, we might just stay in that country the whole time. I guess it'll just depend on what we see here on LL in the next couple months. :-)

Morgan's Rock is quite funky. The "huts" are amazing. It is very outdoorsy though. Another option is to look at El Silencio Lodge relatively close to San Jose. Nice location.....check it out. there had been LL properties, not sure if there is one now....Have fun!

Lapos rios is owned by the same company that has Jicaro - Cayuga sustainable travel -they are on FaceBook. Lapos Rios was on LL a few years ago but I missed out on that package - I too am hoping they bring it back. Cayuga has other very nice places in CR.
Lapo Rios is very isolated and in the middle of the jungle right near Corcovado National Park - no TV, phones, or WiFi reception - so you have to be really into the "get away from everything" mindset. I just read an interesting article about LR and it was quite funny actually - the woman was writing about all the wealthy people who were there and they were desperately trying to use their blackberries, etc. to do email and contact their businesses and she mentioned that she was going through internet withdrawal and it took her a few days to really appreciate the beauty of the area.
I have only been to Granada Nicaragua and loved it - very nice colonial Spanish architecture and friendly people.
Only a few more months and then will be doing Jicaro and Aqua in Nica - really, really looking froward to it!!!Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

Hi Renee, We have been to Costa Rica several times, and feel it is a good choice since you will already be in Nicaragua. I have to agree that Lapa Rios is a nice place, but I'd like to share place on the Central Pacific coast that is well worth considering. Their website is www.costa-villa.net. It is a very nice 3 Br condo in Esterillos Este which is centrally located between Jaco and Manuel Antonio.. We have stayed there before and loved it. Much better than getting a hotel, and more reasonable than most resorts.

If you fly into San Jose and want a place to stay near by for a few nights - try the Xandari Resort and Spa - we stayed last year and it was one of the best places we have been in CR and LL has packages for Xandari up now. The villas are wonderful as are the grounds and the staff is great.
Decent food in the restaurant also.Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........
