08-19-2009, 11:43 AMJourney's End - La Terrazas, Belize
My trip to Belize!
Sounds like Im making a show and tell kids report on what I did this summer.
First of all, a huge round of thanks to several people who really caused all of this to come together:
Jim Sanchez, without your assistance I would probably not have been able to get the dates I wanted at Journeys End, what with all of the construction and rehab of the regula beach cabanas.
Bonniejoy03 and kyshel, thanks for pushing me initially to go ahead and burn a VIP Certificate, participate in and win the auction.
Omegaet, thanks for encouraging me to speak directly with the resort management and push a little harder for an upgrade to La Terrazas rather than accept the basic accommodation I initially won.
Kyshel, why didnt you lobby me harder to fly Delta?
I couldnt believe my American flight out of Atlanta to Miami was cancelled just twelve hours before departure. Well, it worked out. Took a later flight, made a later connection in Miami and our ground transportation still met the flight in San Pedro. Our water taxi from the resort was waiting at the pier and even made a quick stop at the convenience store to pick up some ice and my first case of Belikin, before we were deposited at the La Terrazas dock.
The two bedroom condo at La Terrazas was really a super upgrade. Nicely furnished, great water views and closed to the infinity pool.
Lorraine at the resort really made certain we received first class treatment. Nadine, at Luna, the resort restaurant, really started each day off on the right foot with our breakfast and attentive service. The night we had our special dinner, lobster and very, very tender beef tenderloin, Luna really lived up to its name. We were covered in moon light, stuffed with fabulous food (much better than we ate during the recent trip to Rome) and basted in Belikin by the end of the evening.
Never used a golf cart to get around the island. Just used bikes, kayaks, and the resorts Hobie Cat.
We had all but a couple of our meals at Luna. Why not? We caught fish everyday and the kitchen cleaned it and prepared it for us.
Ok, the resort is named Journeys End, but this is one journey I really, really hated to see end!
p.s. The dives at the Blue Hole and Half Moon Bay are totally worth the time and money.

Re: Journey's End - La Terrazas, Belize
mountie...how disappointing! They only upgraded you to a two bedroom? You should have insisted on one of the three bedroom penthouse units! Did you remind them you are a Luxury Link VIP and deserve special treatment?
Glad you had a good time....now where are you going next?- Ω -

Re: Journey's End - La Terrazas, Belize
Hi M....now more details for me...we stayed at Journeys End YEARS ago....is that property still there? (beach and garden cabanas), tennis courts? Or, did Terrazas take over....love the Belikan beer!! My type of trip! How was tourism? Was Ambergris Caye crowded or mellow? Are there alot of time shares in the area? Can you connect with the main caye by bridge or must you go by water? Thanks for your update and so glad you went! Now, you will need to do some sailfishing in Guatemala!!

Hey Mountie,
It sounded like you had a fantastic trip... and I'm glad both LL and La Terrazas went the extra mile for you. Nothing quite like being treated like kings and queens while on vacation!

CMDAVILACLI, I have taken a little different approach with the last couple of LL trips I have made. I guess I initially thought I should not mention LL once I had made my reservation, because I didn't want the service people to think I was getting a great trip deeply discounted. You know, more or less a cheap skate!
Now I don't hide the fact that I am a LL traveler, from the moment I arrive and throughout my entire stay. I tell everyone at the property how I learned about them and without their exposure on LL, I probably would never have known about them or visited.
I let them know that I fully intend to have a wonderful experience during my stay and they can be assured I will share the information with my friends and associates upon return home.
One of the other VIPs here in the community suggested this positive approach shortly after I joined and started bidding. I guess it sounds simply and maybe even a little silly to some. However, I make certain to pave the way for LL travelers who will follow in my foot steps. I'm glad I listened to the advice.

Re: Journey's End - La Terrazas, Belize
Hi M...well said and I should take your advice! Sometimes I tend to be a little more quiet. I really should be a lot more expressive in my feelings towards the properties, etc. Good advice! I'll be using an LL property in November so will begin.....in the mean time, I can still spread the word in Virgin Gorda! (too bad Biras Creek and Bitter End will be closed!)

I just wanted to second Mountie's review of Journey's End resort in Belize - it was a great trip and the resort was a nice treat. We stayed at Journey's End in Belize last year with a LL package - and it was a fantastic deal! I love Belize - it was the best snorkeling experience (hol chan marine park) that I have ever had (and diving experience for my boyfriend).
Journey's End was just right - not over the top, but the staff were exceptionally friendly and nice and very warm and helpful. While we did not stay at La Terrazas we did walk around - and it looked very nice. I thought the location on Ambergris Caye was great too, it was far enough away from the main town area (San Pedro) that it was quiet and peaceful the town area was too crowded and notthat nice. If anyone is considering Journey's End I would say go for it - especially if you are able to get the LL package. Make sure you stay in one of the oceanside cabanas though - the only way to go. Clean cabanas, friendly, good food, lots of activities to do as well.
Happy Travels!

Re: Journey's End - La Terrazas, Belize
I stayed at Journeys End years ago and enjoyed it- the only LL trip I have done to Belize was when they used to have Blancaneaux Lodge - wish that would come back!
I like mainland Belize better than Ambergris (a bit too touristy - I usually stay on Caulker when I go to one of the Belizean cayes).
Nice review and glad you took the leap and went there - try Guatemala the next time if you are looking in the Central American area!
I always tell the hotel/resort I am doing the trip through LL - always get nice treatment and sometimes they do give a little extra!

mmm2009, glad you enjoyed your visit to Journey's End. They really treated us first class in every way. Not just the fact they willingly upgraded us to La Terrazas, but the fact they were always looking at ways to make our time more enjoyable. I still exchange emails with them and look forward to a return visit.

Re: Journey's End - La Terrazas, Belize
M...Please tell me...is the original Journey's End resort still there? We stayed there twice in the 90's. They had tennis courts and little cabins in a U shape facing the ocean. It was one of the original properties in Ambergris Caye. (Ramon's was also there.) There was nothing else around except for a religious retreat as their closest neighbor. It was wonderful years ago...great snorkelling and fishing! This is where I caught my first barracuda by myself!!
