07-06-2012, 03:01 AMMaybe Peru Again
I'm back looking at Peru again for another visit. I'm open to off the beaten path suggestions. Last trip was great but so many tourists, backpackers and the like at Machu Picchu.
I'm collecting my AA miles and would like to upgrade this time.
Suggestions?

Nice M.......Question for you along the same lines.....what is the best time to visit Peru? Is March a good weather time?

Depends on where you want to go in Peru - Machu Pichu is best May - September.
I would suggest the Peruvian Amazon - we added it on the last time we were in Peru - short flight to Puerto Maldonado and then a boat ride to lake Sandoval - where the giant river otters are - beautiful. I know LL had an Amazon package on here for a lodge in that area - we stayed in the Lake Sandoval Lodge but did see the lodge that has been up on LL and it is nice.
Have you already done Colca Canyon - I think I saw you did the OE property there? There is also the lake Titicaca area - which is on my list but have not made it there yet - so much to do in Peru - I have been 2x and still much that I have not seen or done yet.Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........

Didn't you us AA out of MIA for your last flight to LIM? If you intend to use AA for your next trip, why upgrade, since they use B757s, the front section has the old F/C seats (no lay-flats) and the flights only last 5 hours.
Suggest you save your miles AA for a longer flight into South America such as Argentina or Chile.....nicer/newer planes and much better cabin service at the front.
What area of Peru are you considering, since you have already done the most visited venues on your previous trip?- Ω -

07-12-2012, 11:00 AMWell, I'm open to suggestions. I just really like the Peruvians and their approach to living.
Also, the food I had was near the top of my list for greatness.

So many areas to see in Peru - Nazca lines area, Colca Canyon, Lake titicaca area, Northern Pacific area - lots of interesting archaeology in this area - Sipan and all that gold!

on this day in 1911, hiram bingham III (the inspiration for indiana jones?) "discovered" the lost city of the incas, better known as machu picchu.

And now Yale Univeristy has to give most of what old Hiram discovered back to Peru - as it should.
Northern Peru has some very interesting arcaeological sites - they have the whole Sipan area which is much older than the Incan civilization - it is a shame there has been much looting going on in the area recently.Roam if you want to, roam around the world...........
