So glad to see far southern Costa Rica packages

I am glad to see LL is starting to get more packages for the very southern portion of Costa Rica down by the Osa Peninsula - was looking at the Oxygen Villas in Uvita - too bad the dates don't work for me. We are doing Cunda del Angel in Dominical (just 30 mins north of Uvita) in November so maybe we can check this place out and see what it is like. The dates only go to April 2013 and we are doing our 2 LL packages to Nicaragua in March 2013 - will wait and see if dates later in 2013 pop up.
This whole area is considered the frontier of CR and does not get a whole lot of tourists. We will be doing Manuel antonio, Ballena and Corcovado parks on the November trip so looking forward to it. Wish I could add more days to November but can not ;-(

Denise, I have to agree 100%, the Oxygen Villas package is one of the nicest additions Luxury Link has made to their Costa Rican offerings is a long, long time.

There is something special about a destination that discloses up front there is no signage to their location!

I love properties with little or no signs especially when they are in out of the way or remote places. Makes looking for them all the more fun. They are starting to get more paved roads in that part of CR so now is the time to go -while it is still hard to get to. The paved roads will only go as far as Uvita, so Corcovado will still remain pretty pristine without many visitors.
Can't wait to explore!!!

It's been several years since we were in C.R. However, on one visit our plans included traveling in a small plane from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez (Osa Peninsula) where we were picked up for the interesting ride to our destination -- Lapa Rios.

Has anyone at L.L. considered this option? It is (or at that time was) one of the more eco-friendly places in the Osa. Definitely off the beaten path. The bungalows are rustic and open to the surrounding hillsides -- complete with unusual animals -- there was an agouti just outside our cabin who coveted the outside shower. Boisterous howler monkeys awakened us each morning. Often, we could photograph chestnut-billed toucans that perched on branches almost within arm's length of our balcony.

The property offers a variety of adventures, and the tour guides are mostly local and very experienced. You can choose from night-time hikes, bird-watching excursions, mountain climbing, horseback riding, or simply relaxing at the pool -- even yoga to relax and soak up the beauty of nature in this quiet forest reserve.

Food was surprisingly good, too.

That is the area I will be in in November - really looking forward to it. We are flying in a small plane from San Jose to Quepos then picking up our rental car and driving south - our hotel is in between Dominical and Uvita - Puerto Jimenez is about an hour's drive south of Uvita - of course there is not much in the way of paved roads south of Uvita so we will go as far south as we can.

Having just come from Punta Islita, Bosque seemed at first to be perhaps a little primitive. However, within hours we had adjusted to the truly laid back atmosphere and I find that when I think back fondly on C.R. I most often think of the Osa Peninsula.

I couldn't agree with you more. The remoteness, in itself, is invigorating. I have a particular photo taken out over the forest, looking at the Pacific which hangs near me in the office. Just a pleasant reminder of an unexpectedly memorable experience.

Another great option near Uvita and Dominical is Villa Selva Mar. It is a 4 bedroom home for rent. Luxury Link listed this property today. I love Costa Rica and can't wait to go back! Happy travels.

Lapo Rios is a hotel that is part of the eco group that runs the Jicaro Island Resort in Nicaragua that we will be doing in March 2013

We were in Drake Bay a couple years ago. I wouldn't want to make that drive from Quepos. We flew in to Drake Bay airport where we were picked up in a Land Cruiser and had to drive across a couple rivers (no way a car could have made it) before being dropped off at a beach where we and our bags were transferred to a boat which took us to the La Paloma Lodge where we were staying. It was our first experience with both howler monkeys, coatis right outside the shower gave my wife quite a surprise, a Jesus Christ lizard running on water across the pool, and birds flying in as well as a monkey climbing in through the open window. No ac, so the windows were open. One of our most memorable Costa Rica trips, but still prefer the central Pacific coast area. Not as touristy and built up as Guanacaste, but not as remote as Osa.
