violence in northern Guatemala

Just read a news article - seems like the Mexican drug cartel violence is spreading into the Northern Peten region of Guatemala - guess we will all have to be careful when visiting Tikal and other sites in that region. There was a huge massacre on a Guatemalan farm by Zetas crossing the border from Mexico - beaheaded farm workers including women and children - what a disgrace - they have to get these cartels under control!

Hi D....this is a "hot spot" for violence. This has been going on for years in that region. It is just horrible though....

I know that violence has been going on for years but it is escalating and getting more gruesome. This is one of my favorite parts of Guatemala - a re visit to Tikal and going deeper into the jungle to see some of the other sites is on my list as is the border region of Mexico and Guatemala - there are some awesome Mayan sites all along the Usimacinta River on the border!
