Volcania Ash affecting Chile and Argentina
WOW....looks like more flight delays in Chile and Argentina with the volcanic activity in Chile. I just saw more flights grounded. (I am beginning to think the volcanic activity is following me! Let's just hope Montserret volcano doesn't go on my way to Anguilla!)
ps-sorry about the spelling of volcano however, I cannot edit the title!

Don't worry about the spelling, the ash has blown away by now. Planes are flying again.

Hi T...received an alert from LAN that flights around Argentina were affected still. Looks like it came, went away, and is now back.

I'm glad that this is happening now, rather than later in the year. I just booked tickets for Buenos Aires for December 4.

Yeah P!!! Good for you. Will you be visiting the Mendoza area? Are you renting a car during your visit to Chile and Argentina? Were you able to use ff points for the trip or a special fare? (I am getting ready to use ff points or pay for a trip for January. Wondered if there was a deal out there.)

I'm not going to rent a car for the first part of my trip. I'm landing in Buenos Aires, then taking a boat to Montevideo, Uruguay. I'll take a bus to Colonia de Sacramento, then a boat back to Buenos Aires. From there, it's a long haul by bus to Mendoza, then on to Santiago. My daughter will be completing her term abroad in Valparaiso, Chile, so we're going to meet either there or in Santiago. We plan to travel for about three weeks, but I'm not sure in which direction yet. I'd like to go up to Peru and hike the Inca Trail, which takes four days.
I was able to use points to get to B.A., but haven't figured out yet how and from where I'm coming home. Fortunately, United allows passengers to redeem miles for one way flights.

Hi P. I am also working on our trip there. We are planning on the "fast" ferry from BA to Colonia. We are probably just doing a day trip. It is quite inexpensive to fly to Mendoza. Check out the price on LAN. I priced SCL to Mendoza to BA to SCL and it was $212! We are using SCL as a base. Still haven't decided if we will just stop at Mendoza or continue on to BA. I have been finding great places to stay. Some of the fun is planning!!!
