Hotelito Desconocido near Puerto Vallarta Mexico?
Have anyone stayed at this boutique resort near Puerto Vallarta? It has been offered on LL for sometime. It looks lovely in an eco-chic kind of way...I'd love to hear some first hand feedback before I seriously consider it for a long weekend getaway.

A good friend of mine went about a year ago on a LL package(based on my urging). He LOVED it. It was absolutely romantic, yet a little rustic. A few things he did point out: it can get a little buggy at times, and it takes a long time to get there from the airport. (He suggested that you arrange for the resort to pick you up and take you to the airport, rather than trying to arrange transfers yourself.)
Also, he said he ended up spending a lot more than he'd expected (but still, he LOVED it) - because the resort is fairly remote, your activities, meals and drinks will all end up on your hotel tab, and there are not really any other ways to save because you don't really end up going anywhere else. They really enjoyed horseback riding on the beach and did it every day - that tended to add up, as did the drinks. But, again, he loved it, said it was very very romantic, and would definitely recommend it.

Just returned from Hotelito, LL for 4 nights. September is the off season so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Stayed across the river overlooking the ocean. Beautiful ocean but you can't swim in it. Too much undertow. Staff is super friendly and seem to all speak some to very good english. Jorge has been there for 10 years and is the activities director and knows everything. Rustic is the right word and the place is at the point where it needs an influx of cash as it is just starting to show some age. Buggy at night and evening. The fan placed above your bed inside the misquito netting solves some problems and causes others. Great for those who need white noise to sleep. The pillows and beds are small and hard as rocks. We folded a blanket under my wife so she could have a little comfort. The natural bug replent seems to work pretty good although one of the other guests got bit all over.
Getting there is difficult. We drove in a rented jeep. If you have the bucks their car service would be better or use their helipad.
While we were there rumors abounded regarding the hotel being sold. A group helicotered in while we were there and it seems the rumors may be true.
All in all it is probably too expensive for even LL rates. But if you want to get away from it all, completely, and totally relax then this may be you spot.

Where is Hotelito Desconocido located? I just got back from a wedding held in the most fantastic little town about an hour's drive north of Puerto Vallarta - San Pancho. The perfect beach vacation, as the beaches are fairly empt (although here too the surf is pretty strong, good for my surfer husband!), there are a lot of great little restaurants that cater to the local population of Americans who own fabulous villas in the area, everything is walkable, it is completely relaxed, etc. Trouble is the one resort really needs updating, our "villa" was super shabby and service and food at the resort itself were definitely sub-par. I'd definitely consider renting one of the larger villas in the town itself as it is a great, remote location and I think the main resort areas would be a bit too touristy and busy for my taste. If Hotelito Desconocido is in a similar town, it might be very worthwhile...
