internal transportation in Mexico - any ideas?
Hi all,
I have been researching internal transportation between destinations in Mexico and have found so many variations in cost, etc. for example, 1 way ticket on Mexicanabetween Puebla and Cancun is $86 per person (not bad) but a 1 way ticket on the same airline between Puebla & San Miguel de Allende (which is much closer to Puebla) is $386 - what a difference. I know there are many bus companies that we can use but when I checked Aldo for transpo, I was getting ridiculously high 1 way fares on the order of $600 per person! Internal transportation costs between destinations will probably be the determining factor on which other destination (after Puebla portion) we will go to. We would prefer not to rent a car this time or to take a 10 hour bus ride so any suggestions?
Thanks

Hello, first time post buy frequent traveler in Mexico. Please forgive me...but are you sure it was not 600PESOS and not USD. 600 pesos is about 48 USDwhich is about right per my travel experiences. Have you tried the bus company "TRANSPAIS"?? I really enjoyed San Miguel, good food and great jewelry at excellant prices.Manythingsto do....weatherisfantastic.

I did think about the peso thing, however, I did request on the online site that prices be displayed in dollars - maybe it did not switch over. I was surprised that it was so high and will give it a try again.
Thanks

Hi Denise,
Rather than flying, have you thought about train and bus travel in Mexico. Many years ago, I travelled on Mexican trains and buses. They were inexpensive, I got a lot to see, made contacts with the natives and generally had a wonderful experience. You might want to check into local train and bus travel. Just a suggestion.
Another way to circumvent ridiculously hight one way airfaires is to book a round trip, use the outward portion and throw the return trip away. This often results in a much lower fare.

Re: internal transportation in Mexico - any ideas?
I was looking into bus transportation, not much train options in Mexico, and since we only want to add 3-4 extra nights onto our Puebla trip, we do not want to do a 8-10hr. or overnigh bus trip. I did find a site that has all the internal bus companies and was playing around with travel options and those rates were pretty high too. I think we may end up just going over by Cancun somewhere since the internal flights to Cancun from almost anywhere in Mexico were under $100 -we are not crazy about Cancun but since it is only 3-4 nights and there are alot of options in this area on LL, we figured what the heck, lets do the tourist thing in Cancun. We have plenty of time to decide since we ar enot going until march
