    Manzanillo Mexico

My husband and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year, and we are looking at trips to Mexico--Manzanillo in particular. Has anyone been there? I need some insight on the property and the area. He's into adventure, and I like a little more sedate setting. Do we fly into PV? Also, what's the shopping like? We'll be there in late Oct.

    Thanks

Las Alamandas is a very beautiful resort but it is not situated right in Manzanillo but is between Puerta Vallarta and Manzanillo. You should check out the L.L. Auctions for this resort as I've noticed it does come up quite regularly.

    Re: Manzanillo Mexico

    Hi missangela,

My wife and I went to El Careyes resort (www.elcareyesresort.com) on the coast north of Manzanillo. We got a 5 night package for about $1500 (half price) on luxury link. It was a great relaxing time. Manzanillo has an airport, so you can fly straight there rather than to PV. We actually came via Colima a bit further inland, where we had a crack at hiking up a 14000 foot volcano (but failed due to altitude sickness), so if you don't mind a bit of travelling there is plenty of adventure to be had. Volcano tour operators do pickupsfrom Manzanillo, but it would be a bit far from El Careyes, for a day trip.

    Cheers,

    Grant

I stayed at Las Hadas in Manzanillo. The food was good, the room was great, and the beach was fantastic. You can get commercial flights, and a taxi from the airport to the hotel is about 36 dollars US. I would stay there again, and I went in October....the place was almost empty!

    Re: Manzanillo Mexico

Just got backfrom Manzanillo having spent Memorial Week '07.We flewdirect with Delta out of LAXabout a 3hr flight .

First we stayed 3 nights at www.villaslosangeles.com at Hotel Row right between Manzanillo Bay & Santiago Bay. Great Location (highest pointon the hill), great hosts & staff, super clean, very spacious& affordable. Was highly recommended at Trip Advisor where I will be posting my full review.

We hadn't been there for about 15 years and we had romantic images of this sleepy fishing villlage from back then. It is now much more crowded not much to do and the beaches had "Red Tide" an algae problem that turns the surf chocolate brown. Not too many people on the water even on the weekend. Colima the capital city about a two hour drive inland from Manzanillo is well wortha visit. A charming colonial town for shopping and walking around.

Weheaded up the coast about 45 minutes at the Grand Bay, Isla Navidad a 4 night package we booked trough Luxury Link for about $870 . Wonderful location (between Bay & Lagoon), Great resort w/ everything that a resort can offer (a marina, golf course, tennis, pools, restaurants, spa, etc) . Super nice staff they go out their way to help you. I will be posting a full review in the next day or so on www.tripadvisor.com (a site I get a lot of my info, keeping in mind you can't please everyone so you have toshift through any ofthe negative reviews to see what set people off).

    Have fun!

    Re: Manzanillo Mexico

Manzanillo is not my favourite place on the west coast of Mexico. You fly into the Manzanillo Airport which is located about 30 miles north of town. The town itself is a very active port with a lot of industry. North of the airport is Barra de Navidad which I am told is very nice, but I have never been there myself.

The bright spot in Manzanillo is Pepe's Hideaway (http://www.pepeshideaway.com/accomodations.php) and if you want a beautiful romantic getaway I'd highly recommend looking into it. It would be a great spot for an anniversary. It is located on La Punta (the point), about 10 miles north of town. The famous (but a bit rundown) resort Las Hadas is located near the gates to La Punta.Pepe's consists of six thatched palapas (each one for one couple) hanging over the ocean. There is a pool, hot tub and a bit of beach. A small fridge with cervezas is in each room and afreezer full of margaritas is always available (and other drinks as well). Guests have use of the 'exclusive' La Punta facilities such as the tennis club (with pro for lessons) andthe beach club (excellent snorkelling). Pepe's right hand man, Speedy, is a marvel. The food is out of this world. Massages are available for about $20!

Oh, and if you go, say Hi to Pancho and Louisa for me. They are the two spider monkeys at the entrance to the property. They love a bit of Mango and a grooming. They are incredibly gentle.
