06-15-2009, 11:20 PMOff the beaten path travel: Chacala, Mexico
It was a pure coincidence how I discovered Chacala. I was planning a volunteerism vacation and came across this article in a travel magazine (in a dental office, I know...). It fascinated me about how this retreat center has turned many people's vacation into an unforgettable one. That's when I started doing more research and decided Chacala would be our next memorable vacation.
It's very easy to get to Chacala from the west coast: it's only 2 hrs of shuttle ride from PVR. The friendly staff at Mar de Jade can arrange for shuttle prior to your arrival.
From now on, my travels will not be any typical itinerary anymore, they will all be 'off the beaten path' types travel.

Wow! Someone else from Luxury Link has stayed at Mar de Jade. I actually read about the place in a newspaper article around nine or ten years ago, and we ended up going there for five or six days. I really enjoyed the communal dining, and my young kids enjoyed ringing the lunch and dinner bell so guests would know that meals were ready. There were plans to build a swimming pool at the time of we were there and I don't know if it was ever constructed. The place was pretty empty when we were there with the exception of two nurses and maybe another family or two. A primal scream group had left the day before we arrived, which was probably a good thing.
What is Mar de Jade like now? Is it still very rustic?
