Return to Hacienda Tres Rios
Third time's a charm and it was.
Bought the HTR 4 night package, eschewing the rental car. Heck, who wants to leave this resort??We prearranged USA Transfers and they rescheduled for us at a moment's notice via email when we didn't get our first flgiht to Cancun. HTR moved our reservation to arrive the next day and kept all 4 nights intact.
The all-inclusive program is slightly different from last time we stayed. Still great cuisine--outdoor grill and pizza oven, Mexican, Asian Fusion and Italian specialty restaurants in addition to the dinner buffet (also open for lunch and breakfast where I enjoyed eggs benedict and champagne each morning...
Our first surprise was the room upgrade we never requested (just a king bed). Our two room suite had 2 full baths, 2 sofa beds and a dining setup. 2 TVs WIFI and a rooftop jacuzzi reachable by spiral staircase off a very large terrace. Not too shabby!!!
Weather was superb and we enjoyed lounging at the pools on padded chaise lounges, poolside service for food and beverage. 24/7 all-inclusive is hard to take for more than 4 days. I'm working on getting off those pounds and eating home-cooked food. I could have walked and biked all over the expansive acreage--kayaked on the rivers or snorkeled the cenotes, but I was too busy being fed and watered.
This is a great all-inclusive. Tipping is included but we always add a bit more for each service from our friendly waiter, Noel, to the room service guys who drag that ice bucket to the suite so often and our housekeeper who cleans top to bottom all that marble and all those towels.
Hasta La Vista, Baby!!!"wherever you go, there you are"

I have this property saved in my favorites - glad to see that it was better this time around - I may look more seriously at this place now.
Thanks for the info

I need to do some serious homework to consider colonial Mexico... so I may be asking more Q's about your adventures via Mexico City.
I keep thinking we'll skip HTR and each year we go back to gluttony and low key hedonism (is that possible?)"wherever you go, there you are"

We are thinking of doing Mexico again in Feb/March 2012 - very affordable and we have to consider the budget now due to the hubbys job change. We will probably go back to Mexico City for a few days and stay at the Lumina Luxury Suites - this was such a wonderful place and the folks there really are very helpful. Just have to decide what other parts of Mexico to add on - we want to do Chiapas but LL never has any thing in those parts, although Sky Auction actually has a property listed in San Cristobal de Los Casas for a nice deal and we can go to Palenque and Oaxaca and then end up on the beach somewhere to round out the trip. I love the planning stages!

12-11-2011, 06:18 AMHi ~ we are going there over Christmas. I'm assuming your package came with a rental car. How did you go about getting the car at the airport? Did you have a voucher? Also, does Hacienda Tres Rios provide snorkel equipment? Thanking you in advance, Nikki

We never needed/wanted to leave HTR. There is is so much to do there. They provide gear for cenote snorkeling--and kayaks. Maybe get the car for one day for Akumal beaches and/or ruins nearby. Not worht going out for nitelife, tho. Playa--YUK--stay at HTR unless you want to party.
So many tours/activitiies on site to bother with car.
We prefer the spa instead of car.
Thinking of returning in Feb. Need Oskar Food Fix. He's a good chef!!
Happy Holidays! Work w/Xavier Sierra as concierge if possible."wherever you go, there you are"
