Arizona suggestions?

Looking to go to Arizona, but don't want to be at a secluded resort. Any recommendations? Thx.

Try the Carefree Inn at Carefree, AZ. I believe it is a LL property that comes up from time to time. The Carefree Inn is located at the Carefree Golf Course, has tennis courts and offers a number of activities, like horse back riding, etc. It is also very near Scottsdale/Phoenix which has quite an art community. It is also within a couple of hours of driving time of Sedona, another wonderful area for seeing and shopping for Western art. The red rocks in Carefree and the Boulders as well as those in Sedona are breathtaking. We spent a few vacations at the Carefree Inn and on one occasion we took a long horseback ride through the Arizona dessert and on an other occasion we took a balloon ride which was quite memorable.

If you stay in the Phoenix or Tucson areas you will not be isolated and there will be lots to do. For a change of pace with some isolation try Northern Arizona in the Page area just north of the Grand Canyon. The Wahweap Lodge is excellent right on Lake Powell by the Glen Canyon Dam. Arizona is really beautiful but you need to get a car and drive around a lot to see the sights.

Have you considered Sedona? It is beautiful and very different. It has great outdoor adventures (jeep trips), hiking, neat shops, and unique accomodations.

Scottsdale has a host of beautiful resorts, shopping, and excellent restaurants. Traffic can be a bit crazy though. The scenary is spectacular.

BonnieJoy, you should check out the Pointe at South Mountain. It has a great waterpark with lazy river tubing, wavepool, and two unique slides. They have a large area for sunbathing and the omnipresent unbrella drinks one has to have on vacation. I can vouche for their Mai Tai's...yumm!

If you want to be in the heart of everything, I'd suggest Scottsdale. And if you like over-the-top luxury, my favorite is The Phoenician (the pools are out of this world and there's a terrific spa). Runner-up would be the Scottsdale Princess. There are many fabulous places to eat in Scottsdale, as well. My new favorite (found during our trip there in October) is Roaring Fork.

cvathis. Wow. Guess what? We actually did visit the Pointe while on vacation there this past weekend. My family and I had a wonderful time in the park. I would highly recommend this to fellow travellers. The lazy river float is great for families. (though be careful of all of the kids goofing around!). The slides look fun but I didn't try them this time. I think I will add that to my to do list in the future. The Pointe at South Mountain is a great weekend escape!
