Key West, FL Ideas?

My hubby is heading for a motorcycle trip around the perimeter of the United States in 2012. In case you wonder - no, I am not riding on the back of it for 8 weeks.

However, mid-trip (August) I am flying to Florida to meet him. The plan is 1 to 2 weeks in the Key West area, then 1 week in Orlando before he continues on his way towards Main.

I know there are LL community members very familiar with the area. I'm looking for suggestions on places to stay / things to do in Key West.

Hi Shy,
How did hubby make out? Is he home by now? and how was your trip to Key West. Let us hear from you.
We finished a 5-day, 320 km bicycle trip in late August along the Drau River from its start in Toblach, Italy to the Slovenian boarder. Had great weather and lots of fun.

BostonTravel. Thank you for your information. I just got back from a couple of week-long trips, so I've been a little slow to answer....sorry!

LL Travelfan - your trip in Italy sounds devine. I hope you will tell us more. : )

Actually, hubby is not leaving until sometime next June (2012), so right now I am just doing the research. This is his dream retirement trip (we are very lucky to retire early in our lives). The date keeps getting moved earlier, as we add to the trip. I like the nice hotel, spa, pool, water, interesting towns to explore kind of areas. Since this is a true "perimiter" trip he is taking, he will be riding as far south as he can in Key West. Then I will meet him with a rental car and we park the motorcycle for my stay. We don't know anything about the area, so any information would be helpful.
