    KING TUT IN PHILLY!

The Pharaoh is invading Philadelphia! On Feb.3, Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaos opens at Philly's Franklin Institute Science Museum. The blockbuster show will be open to the public for about eight months until Sept.30, 2007. It will include 50 major

objects excavated from Tut's tomb, including his fabulous golden crown. Seems the entire Philly region will also join in the celebrations, with Tut-yhemed restaurant specials, cocktails, events and special programs tied into the Ancient Egypt-theme. Go to: www.gophila.com for more on this spectacular, once in a lifetime event.

    Re: KING TUT IN PHILLY!

CurtieJoe. Thanks so much for the updated information. The exhibit looks great. We would love to assist anyone with trip ideas if they were to visit Philly. I grew up in Philly and still have family there. There is alot to see and do. Also, there are splendid day trips. Some ideas might be to go to the New Jersey beaches, visit the casinos in Atlantic City, see the aquarium in Camden (boat ride across the Delaware from Philly), and visit Pennsylvania Dutch Country further west. (my location now.)

Curtiejoe, I forgot to respond when you first posted this. This is a fantastic exhibit, a must for anyone in town. I visited two years ago in Los Angeles (it's been traveling the nation) and the exhibit was so gorgeous it inspired a trip to Egypt! The artifacts are displayed very elegantly and everything is perfectly planned and lit, which is quite different from what you find at the Egyptian Museum where there are of course thousands of fascinating artifacts but the entire place is in disarray. Thanks for posting!

    Hi claasenam

You're so right. I also toured the fabulous Tut exhibit when it was here in Toronto at the Royal Ontario Museum some years ago. My whole family, especially our two sons, were completely enthralled and spellbound by what was on display. The amazing treasures of Ancient Egypt literally took our breaths away as we stood and gaped at them in awe. That's why, when i noticed that it's appearing in Philadelphia for an extended period this year, that I wanted to share this information with others on the LL Community. It is truly a magnificent and unique exhibit! Just look at the effect it had on you: a trip to Egypt!

    Hi Curt :

Thanks for this great information, I believe you've prompted me to take a quick trip to Philly for some cheese steaks and Pharos. It's only about an hour for me and well worth it. I have not seen this exhibit yet!

    hi enewseven

I'm thrilled to hear that you're heading to see the Tut Exhibit in Philly and savor those mouth-watering cheese steaks! I know the Ancient Egypt artefacts will absolutely blow you away. They sure did me, my wife and our two sons and inspired me to write a historical, action/adventure novel about the time of the building of the first pyramids at Saqqara in Egypt.

My boys and I have visited Philadelphia several times over the past 25 years to see the Phillies play baseball or the Eagles rough up some of their NFL rivals. When we're there, we always make a point of grabbing some tasty 'hoagies' and/or cheese steaks at one of the fabulous restaurants Downtown.

On our last trip, we made a very moving and memorable visit to Gettysburg and became totally absorbed in the epic battle that took place there over a three-day period during the Civil War that changed the course of American history. To this day, our hearts and minds are stirred with memories and emotional impressions whenever we speak of our visit to that bloodied battlefield that saw the opposing forces of the Blue and the Gray pit themselves in a momentous and pivotal struggle across Seminary Ridge, Big and Little Round Tops, and finally culminate in Picket's heroic but ultimately disastrous (for the South) Last Charge towards Cemetery Ridge.

Enjoy your visit with King Tut.

    Hi C,
Is this the same King Tut Show that was presented at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC some years ago? If it is the same that I saw in NYC it was fabulous.

BTW have you booked a hotel yet in Paris???

    Re: KING TUT IN PHILLY!

    Hi again L

I think so, but not sure. I too saw it and was overwhelmed when it came to Toronto.

Our trip to Amsterdam and Paris has been postponed (likely to this fall) due to a scheduling conflict. So we flew down to Santiago, Cuba, with three of our friends for a week of fabulous sun, fun, rum and surf!!! Just got back yesterday and were met by a blizzard! Stayed at Club Bucanero, not more than 70 miles west of the U.S. naval base/infamous prison at Guantanamo Bay....interesting! Had a wonderful evening at the rooftop bar of the grand old, top-of-the-line, downtown hotel, the Casa Granda, on Revolution Square. Watched the brilliant evening sun slowly sink into the west while sipping Mohitos and Cuba Libres just across from where Fidel Castro declared the overthrow of the Battista regime on Jan. 1, 1959 from the upper-level balcony of the City Hall. Amazing place!

    Re: KING TUT IN PHILLY!

    Hi C,

Sounds like it might have been the same King Tut show, just took a while to get to Philly...

Wondered what happened to you since you were absent from the board for a while. Sounds like you had a great time in the sun... Sorry to hear your Paris trip got postponed till this fall.

We just got back from a week of fabulous skiing in Val Thorens, France. Had lots of sunshine and skiing was fantastic but the hotel was a bust! I wonder how it ever got onto LL. We knew the place when it was a Relais&Chateaux hotel in the late 90ies, but now it is badly run down. We were quite disappointed, it certainly was not up to LL standard.

Our friends just got in to Paris from the States and are staying at the Hotel Regina. Unfortunately, the hotel has been taken over by a trade show, so far, our friends haven't complained yet....although their room is quite nice.

We are off for a day of sightseeing to Mont St. Michel and then on to Italy for 21 days.

    Good to have you back

    Re: KING TUT IN PHILLY!

    hi L

February was a very busy month for us in many ways. Started by moving my 'office' downstairs so that I now have about 5 times more room for all my stuff (computer desk, file cabinets, bookshelves, sound system & TV, etc.). Then, renovated the old 'office' into a study for my wife by stripping off the old wallpaper and painting all the walls and installing special, sound-absorbing tiles in the ceiling (she likes to play and practice her guitar at all hours...) before bringing in all new furniture for her. Then, got into a taste-testing group wuith a chain of oriental foods that took us out of town to check out new menu items at several of the chain's outlets in southern Ontario: yummy! Finally, the impromptu trip down south to Santiago de Cuba with friends. Wow!

Sounds like you too have been quite busy with your ski trip in France (heard they finally got some decent snow after a pretty dry start to the season). Too bad about the run-down hotel. No doubt Italy will provide better digs for you. Look forward to hearing about your three week sojourn there.
