03-22-2007, 02:25 PMThought about visiting Newport, Rhode Island?
I'll admit up front, I'm biased. I'm Rhode Island born and bred and I think the "City by the Sea" is a gem. If you haven't experienced Newport, you might want to plan a trip this summer when the city hosts its largest ever Tall Ships Festival:

The sight of these beautiful ships sailing into Newport Harbor is unforgettable. There are many events planned and this is always a very "family friendly" destination.
Newport is famous for its beaches, historic Colonial architecture and the Gilded Age mansions where the Vanderbilts and the Astors summered

If you like to travel in the style to which the Vanderbilts were accustomed, LL often has auctions for some truly great properties...The Chanler, Castle Hill Inn and Resort and a number of charming B&Bs.
There's no shortage of things to do, plenty of great shopping and some truly wonderful restaurants. I'm happy to be your online guide...if you have a question about Newport or Rhode Island in general, I'd be happy to help. Just ask!

Re: Thought about visiting Newport, Rhode Island?
Hi Fred
You certainly are a proud Rhode Islander (do you still live there?) with a lot of great travel experiences and information to share with other LL Community Contributors. Really appreciate the weblinks you've provided in your post to some of the local travel destinations and attractions, like the Tall Ships Festival, and sumptuous accommodations like the Castle Hill Resort. Thanx. Makes me want to include Rhode Island in our next excursion along the Eastern Seaboard.

Yes, I still call RI home. And I love it. I trust you found my other post with the restaurant listings. Do come up to RI this summer. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Hi Fred
One way or the other, my wife and I will be touring the Eastern Seaboard this summer. When we do, we'll make a point of visiting Rhode Island and sampling some of the excellent restaurants, seafood and otherwise, that you have set out in another post. Our timing now is tentative, as we're waiting to hear from the LL Moderators/Editor about the specific date of the next VIP get-together in New York City. Appreciate all your advice and information.
Curt
