Vermont - Castle Hill Resort and Spa
My husband and I just came back from a very luxurious stay at the Castle Hill Resort & Spa in Ludlow, Vermont. This distinguished member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, overlooking Okemo Mountain, delighted us by its comfortable and romantic guest rooms, where intricate details everywhere speak volumes of the decadent lifestyles of the 1900s when it was Govornor Fletcher's private home before he moved into the Govornors' Mansion in Montpelier, VT. We sampled the Castle Hill Resort's fine cuisine and enjoyed their excellent service. We also loved their heated outdoor swimming pool and jacussie and the resort's privileges at the adjacent Castle Hill Aveda Concept Spa, the area's only full-service spa. The Castle Hill Resort and Spa is a wonderful getaway in every season. Apart from comfort and a most friendly staff, it offers good skiing in the winter, biking in the spring, hiking in the summer and enjoying the dramatic colors of the fall. We will definitely return to Castle Hill Resort.

We stayed there back in 1996 with another couple - not sure if it's still the same owners, but they had only been open a month, had just recently renovated the rooms (and were still in the process of doing so) when we stayed, and we were the only guests at the inn. The spa had not been built yet and the room rates included breakfast and dinner. We got the royal treatment for the entire weekend - we got to see the rooms that were still under renovation, had pretty much whatever we wanted for breakfast and dinner (and the food was superb), and remembered our visit as one of our favorite VT stays. Even though we now own a vacation home nearby in VT, I am seriously thinking of returning to see how the place has been improved. It really is as gorgeous as the pictures seem.

Hi L
I'm so glad I caught sight of your timely post on this English Country House-style resort in Vermont. Just this week, I spotted the LL auction for a 3-night stay at this marvelous resort and it looks like a very attractive property. As my wife and I would like to take a short driving holiday from Toronto into Vermont sometime this summer, this auction item seems perfect for us: it's romantic, elegant, in a mountainous setting, close to several historic locales and natural areas. The current bid sits at about 1/3 of the posted retail value, so seems a steal! After reading your glowing comments on your recent stay Castle Hill Resort, I'm seriously considering putting in a bid before the auction closes. Thanx.

Re: Vermont - Castle Hill Resort and Spa
Hi Curt,
I noticed Castle Hill Resort in Vermont is on the auction list again. We thought about a short get-way to Vermont this fall. Sadly I noticed that here again LL/the resort is offering less for more money. We had a bottle of house wine included with dinner in our package and one 60-minute massage each in the spa which now are no longer part of the package, all other features are the same, except the starting price for the 3-night package was up by $40. So inflation has crept into the US packages as well, not just in Europe where the high exchange rate is driving up prices.

Hi L travelfan
The Castle Hill resort in Vermont still looks really good to us, especially as we've not been there yet. Seems like inflation's cut into the package offering on the LL Community for this resort but I think my wife and i will still drive east into the green hills and mountains of Vermont sometime this summer or fall just to savour the verdant countryside, the lovely scenery, the friendly New England folks, and the fabulous resort accommodations there. Hopefully we can time it to coincide with the VIP gathering in NYC and swing down to The Big Apple to take part in the Special Event to meet you and other VIPs face-to-face!
Curt
