I'm new to this site but not to the pacific having taken 20 trips there that total well over 400 days. I detest what has been done to Bora Bora, a placeI once lived for and spent as long as 3 weeks a pop at. try that now and it will cost 21k just for the room. The overbuilding of the island is really a crime too. The other islands are viable alternatives, see them before they go the route of Bora Bora. Since being priced out, Fiji, The Cook Islands and Samoa have given me my tropical fix. Oh yes, the Caribbean can not hold a candle to the pacific. Not even close.

One more thing and I mean no offense to any one. Tahiti and Bora Bora specifically are what they are now due to the once in a lifetimer mentality. It used to be a little advertised vacation destination for people smart enough to know there were isles in the pacific not called Hawaii. I went 7 times in 5 years and stayed the majority at Hotel Bora Bora, eating all my meals there as well. I never made it to Rangiroa but it is one of the few places I would consider in F.P. should I ever return. The others being Huahine or another Tuamotu locale.
