Hi, a couple of questions. I am getting married this summer and I am looking for a great honeymoon location in the South Pacific. How is the weather in the S.P. in July? And which islands are the best for honeymoon. I would really like an overwater bungalo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

We went on our honeymoon almost 5 years ago now and we went to Tahiti, Huahine, and Bora Bora for two weeks in June. The weather was hot and humid but not unbearable. We had an overwater bungalow in Huahine and a beach bungalow in Bora Bora. I would highly recommend Te Tiare in Huahine. Huahine was like our private island. There was hardly anybody there and the locals are so very sweet. Bora Bora was much more touristy but if you can ever have paradise on earth, that is the island. Breathtaking views everywhere you go.
I have been to Tahiti, Moorea, Rangiroa and Bora Bora. You'll find overwater bungalows everywhere. Tahiti and Moorea are the most tourist-y and most like Hawaii. Bora Boraand Rangi were my favorites. If you stay at one of the resorts on the ring of little islands with a view of the center of BB (Le Meridien, Pearl Beach, Hotel Bora Bora, Bora Bora Lagoon) you will have a terrific view, amazing snorkeling, and be a little bit removed from the main touristy areas.Quote:

Rangiroa is real peace and seclusion. The main resort there is Kia Ora Village and the diving is phenomenal. You can watch wild dolphins play every day when the tide shifts - there is a strong current in the channels between the lagoon and the sea when the tide turns, and the dolphins either play or hunt at this time, leaping out of the air. It is really something else. For real seclusion, Kia Ora also does has a "primitive" resort on the other side of Rangi's atoll - I believe it has no more than 3-4 bungalows, and no electricity (don't worry, it's very luxe). You will need to stay on Rangi at least 5 days to be able to do this, as your 1st day is at Kia Ora Village, then there is a 3-4 day minimum at Kia Ora Sauvage, then another day to get back to Kia Ora Village and transfer to the airport. Very romantic, peaceful, and pampered.
One thing to remember about July: There is a festival week - I think it is the 1st or 2nd week of July, called "Heiva" - that involves lots of partying, dancing, canoe races among the islands, etc. It is fun, but can be inordinately loud. Depends on what you are looking for on your honeymoon - if you want quiet you may want to arrange the Rangiroa part of your stay during this time!
