The location provided a substantial amount of remoteness....along the Pacific coast of southern Nicaragua and surrounded by more than 4,000 acres of mostly dry tropical forests.
The accommodations were splendid in their simplicity....spacious bungalows constructed of native hardwoods with incredible unobstructed sweeping
We decided to arrive in Austin, the day before the Luxury Link Social Experience, just to get a taste.....how can you not be intrigued by a city whose unofficial motto is: Help Keep Austin Weird?

Our trip to western Belize was brief, only four nights, and we wanted to cover a lot of ground, as well as fit in some rest and relaxation time. Highest priority was a day trip over to Guatemala and spend as much time as possible exploring the partially excavated ruins of Tikal.
So, we selected Ka'ana Boutique Resort near San Ignacio as our base, providing excellent proximity to Guatemala and to a number of nearby Mayan ruins and 'active' excursion possibilities.
When we first read the Business Week article and the comments attributed to the Hannanbrothers (especially #2), we wondered if Ka'ana Boutique Hotel would be the right 'fit' for our weekend in Belize.
We decided to give a go!
Here are some observations:
● The rooms and suites air conditioned, while most (if any) other resorts in western Belize are not (OK, we could be more sensitive to the environment and deal with open screened
We booked a short trip to western Belize and secured reservations at Ka'ana BoutiqueResort for a quick four-night break.
While searching their web site for possible excursion ideas, we noticed the resort is a participant in Pack For A Purpose. We exchanged several emails and spoke with the resort's reservations manager Patricia Rodriguez regarding their project school. Actually, the 'wet' season would be our preference for travel in the Peruvian jungles (we felt the time we spent in the rain forest of Ecuador was greatly enhanced by the frequent rains).
