Insider Tips From The Editors Of

travel + leisure

Taxis in Cape Town - Many Capetonians use cheap minibus taxis to get around -- it's a more informal means of transportation, with frequent stops and hair-raising rides in cramped, sometimes mechanically challenged vehicles. Best bets for ease and safety are Marine Taxi (27/21/434-0434) for reliability and quick response, and Rikki's (0861-745-547), a maverick fleet with London cabs (kitted out with TVs in the back) and free direct call-phones in many locations.

When to go to Cape Town - November through late March is peak season. Rains begin in mid April.
