About the Hotel

Architect Germán del Sol took inspiration from the daily life of Patagonia and based the design of Remota on the buildings in which the sheep farm workers live. To minimize its footprint, Remota uses sustainable practices, locally sourced materials and available resources – light from the continuous vertical windowpanes provides both visibility and warmth, and also contributes to the design scheme. In support of the local community, Remota aims to train and employ only local people.

Some severe flaws in funky hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We had two separate stays of one night each, which sandwiched our stay in the Rio Serrano. This is a vast property for the area and has quirky modern features that look aesthetically pleasing yet are less agreeable to use. Lots of slopes and staircases that you have to lumber big suitcases up to reach very overheated large rooms where the wifi does not work. Luckily, we managed to turn off the radiator completely because the insulation is good to the point of stuffy. Slippy antislip mats (!) in the bathtub that doubles as a shower and difficult for some old people to climb into. Breakfasts are grim with the worst tasting coffee and many items not put out first thing at 0630 start of service, rather awkward given trips can set off at 0700. Others in the group warned us that the dinners were awful, so we dined in the Escondida over the road at the bottom of the hill.

Remota Gateway to Torres del Paine

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I stayed at the Hotel Remota for several days before and after a trip to Torres del Paine National Park. The Hotel is located on a fjord that eventually feeds out to the Pacific Ocean and is roughly one mile from downtown Puerto Natales. The location at the top of a hill overlooking the fjord is perfect for viewing sunsets and looking north at mountains toward the Park. The room was comfortable although the lighting in the bathroom was a bit dim. The shower is a bathtub/shower combination so anyone having difficulty stepping over the edge of the tub would need to be careful. The fact that wi-fi is only available in the public areas of the hotel is a minor inconvenience. There are no TV's in the room. Since I was there to go hiking and take tours of glaciers there lack of TV was not really an issue. I enjoyed the restaurant but keep in mind that the Hotel does not have a snack bar, if you need food during hours the restaurant is not open you'll need to head into town (there was actually a restaurant within a couple hundred yards of the hotel). Taxi rates for running into town were pretty reasonable but you needed to build in at least ten minutes for a taxi to get to the Hotel.

Fabulous hotel, great service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We stayed only one night here enroute to Torres del Paine in a standard room. The hotel is located outside of the township of Puerto Natales. Loved the architecture of this hotel. We had dinner here which was excellent and the breakfast buffet very good. Service from reception, bar and restaurant very good. Highly recommend.

You can’t sleep here

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Eco-tourism is great in theory until you realize there are cheap radiators that make loud banging noises the entire night. I slept 4-5 hours on average here because of these noises and the fact that tours start around 5-6am. I asked the hotel to fix the problem on the first night and no one came. The next night I complained and someone came but didn’t actually fix anything/know how to fix the problem. I was told I’d be given some sort of compensation for the inconvenience but that was just lip service as then management refused to be helpful. This is not a luxurious experience.

poor value and not practical

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

very pretty but not very practical. Extremely disappointed and overall not impressed. Restaurant was unavailable!! as the clue is in the name, the 'remoteness' of this hotel means you have to drive into town to get dinner. Staff were verging on rude in explaining this and generally not terribly helpful. Little things as well like no robes to go access the pool, the pool was not open until 10:00am and therefore the sauna and hot tub were not hot! As this was booked as a post trek treat, limited access to the sauna was also very disappointing. A single seat in the room clearly designed for 2 people (and an uncomfortable wooden cube at that). etc. wifi only in public areas - which were indeed quite comfortable. The breakfast was nice. But overall this was poor value for money.
