travel + leisureWhen to Go Aspen - Aspen is a year-round destination, with great hiking and mountain biking in summer. Ski season runs from Thanksgiving through April. High season, and maximum powder (15 inches per week on average), is between January and March. The best deals can be found in November and April.
Getting There Aspen - The closest airport, serviced by Frontier, United, and Delta, is Aspen/Pitkin County Airport. American Airlines and US Airways fly to both Eagle County Regional Airport and Grand Junction Regional Airport. In Aspen, the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (970/925-8484; rfta.com) runs complimentary shuttles to the mountains.
Getting there Vail - and around Fly in to the Vail/Eagle airport, about a half-hour’s drive from the resort. You can also use the Denver airport, which is two hours from the resort on I-70.
