Europe Trip Itineraries
The Romantic Side of Prague
Destination(s): Prague
Prague possesses a definite magical quality. Black lanterns drip dim spotlights onto the cobbled streets, which weave their way through ornate facades and castle walls. Shadowed gargoyles peer down from the rooftops; they appear to be standing guard. Maybe they are the ones who have protected the city from becoming another faded European capital, who have preserved its enchantment. Whoever did the protecting, one thing is for sure: the second you arrive you know you’re somewhere special. What a perfect setting for a love affair! Maybe you’re traveling with your spouse of fifteen years. Maybe you’re planning your first trip with a prospective “the One.” Or maybe you’re backpacking through Europe and have just met the love of your life. Whatever the case, if you’re looking for a little bit of romance, you’ve come to the right place. read more about The Romantic Side of Prague

Fragrant teas, toasty shisha, soft couches, and low lights contribute to the amorous atmosphere at this Arabic-style basement tearoom. In addition to the obvious variety of teas, you can find coffee, juice, and a decent range of wines at Shiva. The menu also includes a popular Arabic drink called a Sahleb, a creamy drink made with a powder of ground-up orchid roots, which is considered to be an aphrodisiac. read more about Cajovna Siva/Shiva Tearoom

This stunning stone bridge in the Gothic style replaced the Judith Bridge, which collapsed in a flood. Called the Stone Bridge for several centuries after its construction in 1357, Charles Bridge (Karlův most) connects Old Town to Lesser Town. Allegedly, egg yolks mixed into the mortar strengthened the bridge's construction. Perhaps it is those egg yolks that helped Charles Bridge to survive many disastrous floods. At each end of the bridge stands a tower, like bookends for the row of 30 Baroque statues that have lined the bridge since 1657. Today, Charles Bridge is a constantly bustling pedestrian bridge, lively with artists, musicians, and vendors. read more about Charles Bridge

The lookout tower (PetÅ™ínská rozhledna) on PetÅ™ín Hill looks much like a miniature Eiffel Tower. Built in 1891 as a celebration of the Czech lands, it initially did the trick. However, since that time it has become a topic of debate, with many people harboring serious dislike for what seems like an inferior version of Paris' main attraction. Although the exterior is the source of some resentment, the tower's purpose makes it a major tourist attraction. Set atop PetÅ™ín Hill, it takes a mere 299 steps to reach the top, where a breathtaking view awaits. It is said that on a clear day, you can see 150 km in any direction. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and offering the most comprehensive bird's eye view of the city, PetÅ™ín Observation Tower has earned its spot as one of Prague's top-ranking tourist sites. read more about PetÅ™ín Hill Observation Tower

Founded in 1902 and a favorite spot for the likes of Franz Kafka, Karel ÄŒapek, and Albert Einstein, this Parisian style café and billiard hall was shut down by Communists in 1948. Fortunately, liberation finally came and Café Louvre was revived in 1992. Here, you can choose to have a meal (breakfast and lunch options are available) or just relax over a cup of the best hot chocolate in the city. The atmosphere is stylish and comfortable and the pastries are delectable in this old intellectual haunt. read more about Café Louvre

A small, candlelit restaurant in the French style, Passepartout is set oustide of the center, meaning you won't be paying tourist prices. The design is simultaneously clean and intimate, with a rich brown leather bar. French-accented servers with fluent English are attentive but careful not to interrupt a private moment. The menu is big enough to offer something for everyone but small enough to provide fresh, succulent dishes in which the passion is apparent. Before dessert, take some time to linger over a fine cheese platter and a bottle of wine. Then, for a sweet finale, the Pistachio Soufflé is a house specialty and a luscious one at that. read more about Passepartout

The rather narrow entrance to this wine-cellar-turned-bar is no indication of the cavernous interior. U Sudu quite literally has many levels. As you work your way down you'll pass through a narrow, dark hallway, find yourself in a level dedicated to foosball tables, and end up in the demurely-lit cellar. Perhaps it's the laid-back atmosphere or maybe it's all the wine but this is one cellar where a couple or a group can definitely get comfortable. read more about U Sudu
