Reviews for Fairplay Golf Hotel & Spa

1-Star Experience, cockroaches, cigarette smelling rooms, fake advertising

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I stayed at Fairplay Golf & Spa Resort on 27 September expecting a relaxing five-star weekend, but the experience fell far short of what was advertised. Our room had a strong smell of cigarette smoke. The room did not match the one shown when we booked. We found two cockroaches in the room. The buffet (€28 per person) was poor in quality and variety. We were charged extra for spa use, which I would expect to be included in a five-star stay. Two power cuts occurred during our visit — one left us showering in the dark and another disrupted the spa time we paid for. We paid over €260 for one night and expected a much higher standard of comfort and service. I emailed the hotel twice (to reservas @ fairplayresort.es and marketing @ fairplayresort.es) but have received no response in over two weeks. Very disappointing overall, and I hope management addresses these issues so future guests don’t have the same experience.

Not luxury, just a bluff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

It might have been once, but today FairPlay Resort & SPA does not live up to 5-star standards at all. The property itself is welcoming, but it completely lacks the attention to detail you would expect from a hotel of this category. The room was spacious, clean and in order, with a nice view, although clearly dated in style. The surrounding landscape is pleasant, but that’s about the only highlight. The real letdown was the staff: apart from the kind girl at reception, the others came across as incompetent, careless, and with an attitude of indifference towards guests. Truly disappointing. The worst part, however, was the food. We chose half-board because the resort is located in a remote village with no alternatives nearby, but the buffet service was simply unacceptable. Poor quality, unappetizing dishes, and so-called “fresh” fish left on display to be cooked but with a brownish color that said it all. In the end, the only safe choice was making ourselves a salad just to have something to eat. In summary: a location with potential, but service and dining are absolutely not up to standard. Definitely not worth the 5 stars it claims.

How our Christmas was a disappointment

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

We stayed here for Christmas 2024 - was a joke , same buffet every day, modest rooms and old furniture (we had a suite deluxe) but nothing was deluxe, staff ok some nice many grumpy and we were astounded how this place got a 5 stars rating - the Christmas buffet sold as a brunch but was a simple lunch at 60€ a pop was almost identical to the breakfast buffet and only a few changes of meats (not kept hot) we felt it was a real rip off- no alcohol drinks included except soft drinks nor coffee and teas neither, we frankly had the worst experience for a Christmas of our lives - only positive was the Christmas dinner which was quite nice and the staff were really wonderful for this and the golf course looks really beautiful but we do not play golf.

most excellent

A well designed ,fair and lovely course to play. Excellent condition throughout with interesting and challenging greens in great condition. Unlike many greens in Spain , not overwatered puddings but they still take spin and hold . The director of golf here obviously knows his stuff and also takes pride in his work which can be quite rare in Spanish golf. The idiosyncratic hotel is quite unusual but a lovely place to stay. There might be the odd inconvenience if it rains for example but the peace , calm and tranquillity is reward for the rare event of rain in Spain. My room was so very comfortable, extremely clean and a joy to stay in. One has to think the hotel manager knows his job as well because he has his staff well trained . Nothing , no matter how small is too much for them and the service is five star. Hard for me to pick a fault here and i can only recommend a holiday here . You wont regret a booking here .

Not a very good golf resort to stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed October 9, 2024

The resort hotel is nice, with beautiful valley view, but kind of in the middle of no where. The hotel is poorly designed, with no easy access to the rooms. To get to our room we had to drag our luggage quite a few steps. We stayed in a suite, which is nice, with a beautiful terrace. However, the sliding door to the terrace was broken and could not be locked. Had to call reception about mid-night. The reception said would send someone over to fix it. No one came at all. Then the reception line was always busy.
