Waves crash near the lanais of Koa Kea Hotel & Resort's oceanfront guestrooms, a collection of low-profile buildings that blend with the nature around them. Inside, fresh flowers accent simple, modern island décor and art prints of coral. Koa Kea means "white coral," a tribute to the life-giving power of the reefs. According to Hawaiian mythology, coral is the goddess granddaughter of the world’s creator. From November to May, Koa Kea’s slice of the Pacific hosts a migration of humpback whales, so keep an eye to the horizon.

We are so pleased with our stay at Ko'a Kea. It was a mother/daughter trip and we couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The room was perfect - we had a partial ocean view which was spectacular. All the conveniences were at our fingertips: I enjoyed an Espresso from the machine in the room, then early morning yoga on the lawn while my daughter went to the Fitness Center. Then walked across the road to Coffee and Acai bowls, then back to the hotel for a swim, snorkeling, and surfing. All equipment was easily rentable on the grounds. There are fresh towels for poolside and the beach 24/7. The lobby offered iced cucumber water as well as a filtered water machine to fill our water bottles 24/7. Walking distance to the Sea Turtles that come out of the ocean in the late afternoon. Amazing sunsets right from the lounge chairs on the hotel lawn with Piña Coladas made from fresh coconut cream and pineapple from the poolside bar. They have a conveniently located laundry room which I have found rare in many hotels. The staff were all kind and welcoming. The location is perfect with 1-2 minute walk to the sand. We saw many couples and a newlywed on their honeymoon at the hotel. While we could have stayed around the resort the entire 7-day stay, we rented a car to go to the North Shore and other spots around the island. I highly recommend Ko'a Kea and we will definitely return when we come back to Kauai.

Every aspect of our experience at Ko’a Kea was amazing. Reservation staff were super helpful and courteous. Once we arrived, on-site staff were friendly, attentive, and always helpful. Our room (garden view) was attractive, clean, and quiet. King-size bed was super-comfortable, and housekeeping staff were flawless, as were the valet parking staff. We ate dinner twice at the onsite restaurant (Red Salt) and the food and service were great—in fact, the sushi at the sushi bar was transformative. We loved late afternoon cocktails at the poolside bar. The hotel’s location is ideal, with easy access to several beaches. We absolutely plan to return.

This was one of the most memorable vacations we have ever had and it was all due to Ko’a Kea resort. I can’t recommend this enough. The food, service, grounds, and staff were wonderful. I highly recommend for anyone who is tired of the large frenzy of the huge chains. This resort is intimate and so special. We will definitely return.

We loved our time at Koa Kea! The concierge was super helpful in planning our adventures on Kaua'i, and the staff was very accommodating and caring. The location is perfect, right next to the ocean with two beaches nearby (turtles galore!). We received a lovely honeymoon gift and we would definitely come back!

The location of this resort is great but the hotel and restaurant are expensive and the quality of the service and food doesn’t measure up to the price.

The Koa Kea was top notch! We loved every minute. Beautiful landscaping, rooms nicely appointed and great quality sheets and towels and superb housekeeping. Red Salt restaurant was perfect and delicious. Breakfast, meals, and wait staff were wonderful, especially Raven - our waiter most days. Not one negative about this boutique hotel. Will return again.
